Early Color — West Dam on the Blackstone

Today, the leaves began to change. I could see it from my office window. I had no time to plan a photo excursion, but on my way to the dentist, I grabbed my little Canon point and shoot. On the way to the office, I spotted the waterfall I’ve been looking for. I’d shot here before, but didn’t remember where. Today, I spotted it and promised myself to stop before we went home.

Further along, I saw the red barn. I’ve passed it so many and never thought much about it, but today, I remembered and stopped there … on the way home.

So many great pictures … Today, just some pictures of the early color changes at the dam, which is called Lower West Dam. The leaves change first along the water.

  1. I want to go there…sit on a rock and wiggle my toes in the water! Great photos:>)

    • It is a beautiful place, an actual park, with picnic tables and even a souvenir shop (rare around here). We used to sit on the dock and dangle our feet until the Ranger in charge of the area pointed out that there are quite a few large, ill-tempered snapping turtles in the river would find our toes a tasty treat. We quickly pulled our feet back. I’ll have to write about my brief employment as the animal control officer for the miniscule town of Millville and my confrontation with a large, lost, and very pissed-off snapping turtle. He was most unreasonable and my usually soothing tones did not convince him (her?) of my friendly intentions. I did not last long in the position, but I am inoculated agains rabies. Or was. How long does that vaccine last I wonder?

  2. Beautiful photographs. Thanks for this sharing.

  3. I do believe this is going to be a sumptuous autumn indeed! These photos are very special Thanks for sharing.

    • I hope you are right! So far, so good. If we don’t get hit by hurricane rains, it should be the best since 2009 (though 2007 was the most spectacular in my memory). The season is so short … I feel obliged to get out there any day that isn’t teeming with rain.

  4. Interesting color changes in less than a week, I believe, since your last photos. Looks like you’re getting your wish for a technicolor New England autumn. Very nice stuff!!
