Prologue Magazine: The real story of the  Von Trapp Family. The real story is a lot less sweet than “The Sound of Music,” but far more interesting and believable.

If you enjoy history and like to know the real story behind the Hollywood version, this is wonderful information that will make “The Sound of Music” more than just a pretty movie with nice music.

If you just happen to  live in New England, you may already know most of this since the Von Trapp family settled in Vermont and were/are well-known local celebrities.

  1. Many thanks for spending time in order to write “The
Real Story of the Von Trapp Family | Serendipity”.

    Many thanks again ,Gerald

  2. This seems to be my day for defending films that are not historically accurate. I just finished comments elsewhere on “My Darling Clementine”. Here we go, again!! I am an unabashed lover of the film that co-star, Christopher Plummer labels “The Sound of Mucus”. Mr. Plummer’s ungrateful comments aside, Robert Wise gave us one of Hollywood’s most endearing films — the kind of movie that MGM use to make in its hey day. The stunning photography (from that memorable opening scene), the music and the performances make this one of my favorite “feel good” films. In REAL life, I covered the Von Trapp Family in New England several times so I can easily separate fact from fiction. So give me Julie Andrews and the wonderful “Sound of Music” songs any time and I’ll say, Thank You!!

    • I love the movie too … and reading the real story doesn’t spoil it for me. It’s still a beautiful film with wonderful music and gorgeous cinematrography. Besides, you already know the “real story,” because you covered it while you were working. You told me so, so you can’t pretend otherwise.
