That’s a big WOW. Elvis hit the airways when I was just about that age and the world was divided between Elvis lovers and haters. I didn’t really learn to appreciate his art until I was much older … and then, he was gone. Too soon. What’s particularly interesting is that Elvis is the ONLY celebrity of my generation that my granddaughter and her friends can recognize. His fame has leaked through two generations.
Score one for Rick!! Never saw or met Elvis professionally. It IS interesting that his fame and celebrity have such long “legs”. He’s in the building and looking for his hound dog because he stepped into poop with his blue suede shoes.
Well apart from a degree of charisma and showmanship he could really sing. Some of those songs he did, I’ve never heard anyone do them better.
Too bad about all those bad movies though. But somebody liked them.

Yes. Of all the celebrities that could have endured through the years, why Elvis? Maybe the question should be why not?

He did have a beautiful voice. It just took me a long time and maturity to find it under the layers of celbrity.
