Getting the Good Shot: Down and Dirty

It was hard figuring the best candidate for this one because I do this kind of shooting all the time. Some of my favorites are taken from above my head or way down near the ground. I picked this one because for some reason, it has always talked to me. But what, exactly, is it saying? This is Boston by Symphony Hall, the only place you’ll find these interesting crosswalks.

Climbed a low wall beside the highway- did get dirty too !

  I have gotten wet, dirty, nearly consumed by mosquitoes, found myself up to my ankles in cowpoop and scraped many a knee. Makes me feel like a real journalist … rather than a klutz. Which is actually what I am 🙂

I remember the video folks in my TV News talking about getting the “good” shots. Most were instinctive. Very few were “set up”. I was first hand witness to many of their good shots. Frequently, I could see those good shots in a blink of my mind’s eye, look at my “shooter” and we’d be on the same wave length. Magic time!!

  Speed counts more often then people realize. I have missed so many great shots because I was trying to make it perfect when I should have just pressed the shutter. I’m getting better about it, but I still need to work on “just do it” as a photographer. Set up shots always look set up. Life isn’t perfect, so why should pictures of it be?

  You’re welcome and thank you too. That crosswalk pattern as far as I know exists in two spots, both next to Symphony hall in downtown Boston.
