And the Daily Prompt says:
Your personal sculptor is carving a person, thing, or event from the last month of your life into the glistening marble of immortality. What’s the statue and what makes it so significant?
Photographers, artists, poets: show us SIGNIFICANT.
To which I have to respond: “Huh?”
Significant to whom? I don’t have sufficient ego for this one. Should I have it carved into stone that my heart is failing and without surgery I’ll die? How about discovering I can’t afford the surgery? Garry’s induction into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame was a biggie, but that’s him. I was just an enthusiastic guest.
I’m not enough of a sports fan to immortalize the Sox making it to the American League playoffs. It’ great, but immortal? Marble?
Significant enough to sculpt into marble? I don’t think anything I’ve ever done or will do earns a marble statue littering up a park. I suppose I could be another one of those big statues that people don’t recognize, but like to perch on while they eat a hotdog or rest their weary feet.
I’ve got a great idea. Make me a park bench, someplace tired people can take a break from life, the universe and everything. Put my little bench in a peaceful spot, under a shade tree, maybe overlooking a river or a dam. Don’t bother with a placard. No one cares. I don’t care, but if I can give someone a little bit of quiet and respite for the craziness of life, that will do. That will do very well.

The bench with the rudbekia is so perfect, but perhaps you should be a tree instead – to provide nice soothing shade and mark the changing seasons as you do so well in your photos. Frankly I don’t think you should be sat on – not in any shape or form.

Being a tree is so Druidic. I like it. Not an oak, though. Oaks loom. I would prefer to be more friendly. A maple perhaps, so my leaves can grow scarlet in the autumn. With a few low hanging branches for youngsters to climb. Thanks so much for a delightful thought 🙂

Yes a maple. Or perhaps a silver birch because they look so lovely all year round.

Silver birch along a river bank. Shimmering. I’d like to shimmer.

I think you do shimmer – certainly on the inside!

Thanks! Beats out another big marble statue of someone nobody’s ever heard of 🙂 At least you can sit and rest.

Ok Marilyn – on this one – I will give you a big ol’ hug & squeeze you tight. Love how you presented this one. I think that I’d make a good bench too. If I may be picky on the location – I will choose somewhere where it doesn’t snow or get too cold. Hmmm…perhaps a tropical island somewhere 😉

Thanks. I wanted to add a picture but I can’t edit or post to my site. It’s either the WiFi (ISP) HERE at this terrific resort (ARRGGH!!!!) or McAfee or a general regional problem with WordPress, but it is affecting my husband’s computer too so it isn’t my physical laptop. This is all giving me a headache. I need a bench of my own.
Took some great photos today BUT I CAN’T POST THEM!!!!
