Your red chair photo reminded me of a now famous photographic experiment involving a red couch. In 1979 German born photographers Horst Wackerbarth and his American friend Kevin Clarke set out to compile a subjective photographic portrait of the United States. The two, photographic installation artists, transported a red velvet couch around the United States. The two photographers also inviting all kinds of people to have themselves photographed with the couch in all sorts of settings and locations. The resulting collection was published in this book with the addition of brief essays by a noted American author about the personalities and journey and what these reveal about the US. The entire project can best be described as an eccentric portrait of the United States circa 1980.

Our two plastic walmart lawn chairs were accidentally left out … and snow came early and hard. As it so often does. A red velvet couch would have made a great counterpoint!
