GERM ALERT! DING, DING, DING! UPDATE!

Garry got sick a few days ago and this morning, I woke up full of gunk. I called the hospital. They said unless I had a fever or a cough, the show goes on. But hey, wait a minute. I can’t breathe … I’m wheezing and sniffling and choking … and I’m going to have hours and hours of anesthesia? No, I don’t think so.

me sicko

This is all going to get delayed a few days, at least until I can breathe without the weird gurgling sound my bronchial tubes are making. (Take a breath or try, anyhow. Gurgle. Whistle. Wheeze. Sniff.) I don’t think I’m well enough for a trip to the grocery store. An asthmatic with a chest cold going in for heart surgery? I think that’s not such a good idea. I understand about schedules, but I’m not going to die to avoid inconveniencing the hospital.

We’ll see where I’m at tomorrow, but my husband is firmly against major surgery while I’m having trouble breathing. I’m inclined to agree with him. Stay tuned for more ongoing drama.

  1. Remember Father Knows Best? Just think of Garry as Robert Young and follow his advice. If that doesn’t work, think of him as Marcus Welby, MD, same actor, same advice.

  2. Can’t think sneezing under the scalpel comes highly recommended either. And after all this waiting? Absolutely, totally unfair!

    • Yeah. Sneezing, coughing and heart surgery are bad combinations. I don’t know about fair. Life isn’t fair. If I haven’t learned anything else, I’ve at least doped that much out.

  3. Yuk!
I’m sure the stress of it all doesn’t help your immune system either.
    Try to take it easy.

    • Thanks. Back from doctor, I’ve got a bad cold. Garry has pneumonia. Surgery delayed until I can breathe through my nose which currently seems to be full of wet cement. Garry and I have got to be the most fun couple in town. Isn’t there an award for this?

  4. I agree with Garry and you!! You must be your first advocate and listen to your body, it’s talking to you! Eat some chicken soup, wrap yourself in warm blankets and cuddle up to someone! Get some antibiotics for the pneumonia!!

    • It ain’t just murmuring. It’s screaming “Stop!” Talk about not pressing my luck … I have a singular goal: to come out of this surgery in better shape than I went in. Dead doesn’t address my goal, unless I get to do the zombie life. I don’t think that would work for me, though the granddaughter would probably find it highly amusing.

  7. Me three, Marilyn. Oh, I am sorry to hear this for all manner of reasons. First, because you are ill – poor you; second because of the delay – and third, the added stress of it all. Fingers (and other bits) crossed that this is just a 24 hour things, and that you are over it by tomorrow. Meanwhile, follow your instincts. Hugs, Ali xxx

  8. I absolutely 10000% agree. I’d wait too. Follow your gut, Marilyn, and Garry. Feel better soon. Been a great year hasn’t it?

    • I think Garry would refuse to drive me to the hospital. His words “I have a bad feeling about this.” Me too. I think it’s possible they don’t understand me and the asthma how I get pneumonia as a bonus coupon with every head cold.
