WAITING FOR HOLLYWOOD TO CALL

Challenge of Smiles

My monthly royalty payment from Amazon just came in and I was pleased to see it was up slightly from last month.

A total of $3.89 was directly deposited into my checking account. I am not sure how many book sales this represents (three?), but I’m pleased my book sells at all.

The royalty deposits make me laugh. What should I do with all the money?

I could get a small meal from the dollar menu at McDonald’s. It isn’t enough to buy me a coffee at Starbucks. Good I don’t like Starbucks coffee, eh? I can’t think of anything else I could do with the money, but the idea amuses me. Being an author has not turned out exactly as I dreamed.

But you never know. Hollywood might yet call and my book could be the next blockbuster.

Right. Sure. Uh huh!

  1. I read somewhere that those Chicken Soup guys were refused multiple times .. now they are an industry. Same for Rawlings.
And any time i pass a Best Seller rack I almost vomit at the stuff that gets into print – and that people are evidently reading.
And some of the greatest literature every written was self published.
Blogs are a form of self-publishing for sure. In that sense you are a Best Seller.
For books does lack of sales indicate that the book or experience of writing it had no value?
    Not at all.

    • Agreed. But if you need the money, it helps if you actually can sell your book. Most of us don’t sell enough to even cover our costs. The vast majority of books whether self-published or put out by a publisher don’t make money. I’m not sure it was ever much different.

  2. Maybe the right person will stumble across it and they’ll make a movie! Dream big, my friend! 😀

    • I actually GOT a movie offer early on but financing never materialized and it was dropped. It would have been a very MINOR motion picture 🙂 And I would have made virtually nothing. Unless I wrote the script, something about which I know nothing. But, you never know. Where there is life, there is hope!

  7. Know the feeling, Marilyn! My Royalty payments for ‘LLB’ MIGHT, if I saved them up, buy me a bar of cheap chocolate! xxx

  8. Plenty of Starbucks out here in San Francisco, but no Dunkin Donuts. I miss Dunkin Donuts coffee, and you could probably get yourself two cups of Dunkin coffee with your royalty check!
