  1. So beautiful! I read with interest the various comments about the late blooming season. We had the exact opposite here in the Sierra. Everything was so early and dried so quickly because we had almost no winter and no significant precipitation.
So the color jumped to my eyes, already tired of the brown.

    • A couple of years ago, we had a completely snowless winter and an early, dry spring. I worried the water table would fall so low we wouldn’t have drinking water. For all our advances in technology, the weather still rules us.

  3. Lovely! They made a special effort to bloom this year given the state winter left your garden in.

  6. I love azaleas. I can’t grow them here… the wrong soil, being on the chalk. These are lovely.

    • They don’t grow well here, either. Rocks and roots. Poor soil, not enough sunlight (too much tree canopy) … but every once in a while, we get a pretty good year. We only have two struggling old bushes. We moved them to try to give them a better shot at it, but they still are pretty pathetic.
