Groundhog Week – If you could relive the past week, would you? Would you change anything?
It has been a simply gorgeous week. The weather has been perfect and nothing memorable has gone wrong.
We haven’t needed either heat or air conditioning. None of our dinners burned and the new convection oven we bought works like a charm.
I wouldn’t change a thing. As I look out my window, it’s another perfect summer’s day, the kind of day about which Shakespeare wrote sonnets.
Sonnet 18: Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date;
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm’d;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature’s changing course untrimm’d;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st;
Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,

And again today, the sky is bright blue. The air is warm with a zephyr breeze ruffling the leaves while a yellow sun lights the world. I’d have to be mad to meddle with this!

Today, the humidity arrived. Maybe the dry, warm weather will return eventually. Summer is usually hot and humid here. The heat’s not so bad but that humidity will strangle you.

We get days (a lot) like that here in the mid-west too. YUK!
This year – I’m not minding the not so perfect summer weather. This past loooong winter has a lot to do with that.

Agreed on that! Almost anything beats out last winter. That was brutal. But the humidity is its own issue and I find it difficult to breathe when the air turns to soup.

Haven’t seen that sonnet since High School- lovely- and oh yes the weather is glorious here in NJ too. Soaking it in! 🙂

It’s one of the sonnets that stuck in my head through the years, so I was glad to have a chance to put it out there. Of course it’s not really about summer, but it’ll do 🙂
