Odd Trio Redux – Time for another Odd Trio prompt: write a post about any topic you want, in whatever form or genre, but make sure it features a slice of cake, a pair of flip-flops, and someone old and wise.

Sorry I’m so late getting started on this. I had to stop and take a few pictures. It’s pretty dark in the house today because, as I discovered when I was heading out to the deck to shoot, it’s raining. I had to shoot in the kitchen. It slowed me down.

Today’s prompt calls for me to write about anything as long as I include a pair of flip-flops, piece of cake, and someone old and wise.

Old and wise? No problem. That would be me. The one with the camera wearing a 70% off final clearance orange tee-shirt dress from JJill. This has become my default house dress. If I want to be totally lazy, I can sleep in it too. On a rainy day like this — there have been few rainy days this summer — I can say I’m “dressing against the weather.” When we lived in Boston and worked, it was traditional to wear bright colors on drab days. This dress is bright and the day is definitely drab.

Now, about that pair of flip-flops. The problem is, it’s not a pair. Yesterday I realized it had become a single flip-flop. I looked under the sofas and the coffee table, but no luck.

I’m not much of a flip-flopper. They feel funny and slide around. I was keeping them in the living room so I’d have something to slip on if I wanted to go out on the deck without getting splinters.

I have to blame this on the dogs. Who else would want one of my flip-flops? As flip-flops go, these were nice ones. Leather. Clarks. One is useless, so I’m hoping whichever of our guilt-ridden canines stole it will bring it back before it’s ruined. Oh, never mind. It’s already ruined.

About that piece of cake. We don’t have any cake here, but Garry is addicted to miniature apple pastries. We always have some of them. In the name of honest authorship I felt obliged to eat a couple this morning with my coffee. They are very good with coffee, though it is rare that I put the coffee, pastries, and shoes in one picture.

But hey … when WordPress calls, I obey!

  1. J. Jills and Clarks are always good choices. And small pastries are great, too. Now, having all of them together was a stretch. Of course, no big deal for you. I should do a WordPress Challenge some day since many of them push our creative boundaries.

    1. It was funny because yesterday I actually spent an hour looking for the other flip flop. It’s the only pair I own.

I wrote about the dress awhile ago and promised I’d take a picture, though why anyone would care I have no idea. It’s a cute dress, though it’s so much like a sleep tee I have trouble remembering it’s supposed to be a dress. I think it is gradually slipping into nightwear, despite being a dress.

And those little apple pastries are very tasty 🙂

  2. You look great in that dress and I absolutely love the colour of your hair. A very good picture. I should have done something in that way instead of taking a quick snap of my flip-flop feet.

    1. The color is whatever nature gave me this week. It keeps changing. It’s a little darker and more bronze than last year, when it was closer to purely white with a hint of battleship grey.

I have trouble shooting pictures of my feet. My body gets in the way and I’m so short, it’s hard to focus 🙂

    1. I love this kind of clothing. It’s SO comfortable. And easy. No matching, no fancy under garments required. Orange is one of the colors I can wear. I look hideous in yellow and some shades of green make me look like a zombie. I have a lot of these as sleepwear, but it has been hard to find these as dresses in recent years. Wet can still count on JJill and Land’s End for at least a few of them.

    1. Thanks! Orange. It’s one of my good colors. Red is another good one. I never heard of fit flops. I’m guessing that’s a brand name? I can look for them on Zappos. If Zappos doesn’t have them, no one does. There isn’t a single real shoe store within 50 miles of my house!

  3. The ‘single flip-flop’ made me smile. I also like how certain clothes can also become sleepwear. I tend to have that problem too sometimes. The clothing becoming sleepwear, not the single flip-flop problem…yet.

    1. Dogs. Ours don’t chew, but they do like to steal stuff and drag it out through the doggy door into the yard. Sometimes, we find it quickly before it becomes trash. Usually, we find it in the spring when the snow melts.

As for sleepwear, I think this dress was born to be a night shirt 🙂 It’s too saggy and comfortable to NOT sleep in 🙂

  4. Flip flops, we call them thongs in Australia. Yes I know in most places that means underwear, Australians call the underwear kind thongs too. It could be confusing if you owned both kinds I guess. Luckily we don’t. We only own the rubber kind that go on our feet. My husband likes to leave his by the back door so it’s lucky that Cindy, our dog, doesn’t take things like that. When I was a child we had a dog who would take things outside, my teddy bear, dolls, a transistor radio and once a tin with a ten dollar note in it! We usually got them back more or less intact.
