AUTUMN — HERE AND GLORIOUS

It still hasn’t rained. Rain is in the forecast and maybe it’ll be enough to make a difference. There’s more predicted for next week, though I have no idea how accurate prediction for 10 days from now can be. We can certainly hope.

On the up side of the drought, the foliage is glorious.

Autumn is our finest time, when New England shakes off her drab old clothing and puts on her coat of many colors. It’s a party for nature and it’s special and gorgeous. A simple ride to the grocery store is breathtaking.

I think it’s heading for an epic-level Autumn. But I’m still hoping that after the leaves have peaked, perhaps Mother Nature will take pity on us and send the rain.

  1. Early fall for New England but so gorgeous. I am away from Maine but will be back for a few more weeks in only a few days. Hope the leaves will wait for me and then I will wish for the rain too.

  2. Oh wowza! Nowhere near that pretty yet, here. Of course, it won’t ever get QUITE that pretty, but it does get much more orangey and yellow than it is now. Still pretty green.

    • It went from green with a hint of yellow to full display in 48 hours. And it’s two weeks early. Usually, it doesn’t look like this till the second week in October. It’s drizzling today. If we get some real rain, it might actually help keep the leaves around a little longer. Everything is SO dry.

    • It happened overnight … and today, the leaves are beginning to fall. This is about two maybe three weeks early. Color doesn’t typically go from green to peak in 24 hours. I suspect the drought is contributing to the rapid demise of the foliage. If, as promised, it does rain tomorrow, the leaves will simply wash away. They are already dry so there is nothing to hold them.

  7. It’s beautiful. I do love autumn foliage. I think I would be hard pressed to say which I like best, spring or autumn. Still I hope you get rain soon. Maybe if everyone were to hang out their sheets to dry, wash their cars or plan an outdoor event on the same day that might tempt the Rain Gods. Sending damp thoughts your way :).
