EVERYTHING MEANS SOMETHING. MAYBE.

Early Friday morning, I was dreaming. In the dream, I was talking to a particularly annoying telemarketer and couldn’t get her off the phone. I was wondering — in my dream — why I persist in answering these calls, I woke up because the telephone rang. And wouldn’t you know it? It was the very same especially aggravating telephone solicitor.

Coincidence? Not a chance. It was a sign.

But there was more to come.

We were having quiche for dinner. We buy it at the supermarket and I heat it in the little convection oven. As dinnertime approached, I decided to change into something without elastic — my nightgown. I have tee-shirt nightgowns from Land’s End. They are the cat’s meow in comfort.

I went to the kitchen. Set the oven on pre-heat. I went to the bedroom, slid out of my clothing, into my nightgown. Turned off the lights, went back to the kitchen. Unwrapped the quiche. Carried it to the oven. At that exact moment, the oven beeped to tell me it was up to temperature.

Coincidence? Of course not. It was another sign!

I could no longer keep it to myself. Omens and portents were gathering. I had to share, to tell Garry. When I finished, he looked blank.

“Really, it means something. Because everything means something.” I gave him my most sincere ‘look.’

“O. K.” said Garry, very slowly. “I give up. What does it mean?”

“I have no idea.”

Garry’s eyebrows went a little higher … and even higher until his forehead could wrinkle no further.

“I’ve decided,” I said, “To become more New Age in my outlook. Everything means something. Everything. I just have to figure out what.”

Garry’s eyes were glazing over, so I figured he’d had enough. It’s was also the first day of 5775. That had to mean something too, right? It’s all about the number six. You see, if you add 5 + 7 + 7 + 5 = 24 = 2 + 4 = 6

And that means (trumpets):

NUMBER 6

ATTRIBUTES AND ENERGIES OF THE NUMBER 6

And that’s about as New Age as I can get. Isn’t that fantastic news? It’s all good. And I know this because of the auguries — dreams and numbers and everything.

I hope it also means we’ll get some rain.  Soon.

  1. Ah, dear Grasshopper, the meaning is in “As above, so below.” This means you need to dig out some Hermetic texts, for insight into the tarot and western numerology, though the first mention of This Answer is recorded in the Vedas.

For a shorter answer to what it all means is “42”. (Hitchhiker’s Guide.)

    • I am very good with 42. It was also Jack Robinson’s number, now retired. Coincidence? I think not.

As for Tarot, been there, done that. Don’t do it any more — lots of reasons, but not going back that way. I think the answer is closer to Bill Bellicheck than Swami Whoosits — “It is what it is.” Mostly, that works for me. Everything else? That’s a different post.

  2. I think some things mean something and other things are meaningless! I KNOW that meaningless telemarketers drive my husband and I crazy! We’ve taken to messing with them for fun. I told a guy from “Bank Card Services” that he sounded like he had a big schlong. It made him laugh so hard that he agreed to put us on their “Do not call list.” They’d usually just hang up when I’d begin to ask them to be put on the list. We haven’t been bothered by them since!

    • I wish I’d thought of that. Usually, I listen about 15 seconds, then click off. I used to engage in conversation, but have long since learned it’s futile. THIS particular organization — I have experience with them and they screwed me, so their repeated attempts to get my business back is especially aggravating. They are relentless. And it’s a woman, but I think she has grown a pair.

  4. I had a dream the other night where the number “5” was most relevant. Throughout my day, nothing significant occurred which could relate to that number, until I was reading someone else’s blog and the number “5” showed up several times. What did it mean? I have no idea, it wasn’t really outstanding in that person’s post even though it showed up numerous times.I didn’t bother to look up the meaning of the number in my trusty numerology book. 😉
