Never Too Late — Is there a person you should have thanked, but didn’t have the opportunity? Is there someone who helped you along the way without even realizing it? Here’s your chance to express your belated gratitude.
Solipsism (
i/ˈsɒlɨpsɪzəm/; from Latin solus, meaning “alone”, and ipse, meaning “self”) is the philosophical idea that only one’s own mind is sure to exist. As an epistemological position, solipsism holds that knowledge of anything outside one’s own mind is unsure; the external world and other minds cannot be known and might not exist outside the mind. As a metaphysical position, solipsism goes further to the conclusion that the world and other minds do not exist.
I am in a solipsistic state of mind vis-à-vis WordPress. You are outside of me. I deny you. I deny you. I deny you. I just can’t do you anymore. The Daily Prompt is over for me.
Just a note about the actual prompt: Yes, you can be too late. People die. Move on physically, mentally, or emotionally. Your window of opportunity — the time to communicate — closes.
Writing a post on WordPress years later does not change a thing. Maybe it will make people think you’re special because you wrote about what you should have done but didn’t. Does posting a belated thank you on WordPress fix that? I don’t think so!
As for me, if I failed to thank someone, it was an oversight. I’m pretty good about thanking people. I go long on gratitude.
I’m reasonably sure I’ve done due diligence in the gratefulness department. Not everyone who I’ve thanked was touched. Not everyone likes being thanked. Some folks were not interested in what I had to say. But I said my piece, if I was permitted.
Speaking of too late: It’s too late for me and these prompts. The bloom is off the rose. I’ve been insulted and dissed by WordPress one time too many. I tried to ignore it, get past it, but I can’t. So …
I’ll have to write about other stuff. Oh, wait, I already write about other stuff.
To all of my friends with whom I shared the fun of writing our various approaches to the same prompts, don’t be a stranger. I’m not doing the Daily Prompt, but it doesn’t mean I don’t love you. And if any of you want to start creating prompts, I’ll be there with bells on, participating with enthusiasm and verve!

I have not participated in the WP Daily Posts since the bitch-fest at the forum thread when they acted like spoiled little kids and closed the thread to any future participants’ posts. I’ve tried posting to their Daily Posts since then but must be banned. So, oh well. As I’ve said too, I have more than enough stories, thoughts, feelings, memories and passions to write about as well as a growing list of other prompts hosted by other bloggers.
I might have to put off catching up on your posts until tomorrow or when I’m feeling better, it’s hard to put thoughts into words when my head feels like it’s going to explode. Anyway, loved your post! 😀

If I’m not banned, neither are you. There’s just something broken between you and their website that they refuse to bother addressing because customer service is not their thing. Call it customer disservice. I’m seriously pissed with them. You can probably tell. So could they, if they actually read anything we write, which I’m pretty sure they don’t do.

Well, you gave us a definition of “solipsistic”. Unfortunately the definition has words like “epistemological” in it. I hate it when words are defined using other words I don’t understand 🙂

Epistemological (epistemology) is a GREAT word. Impress your friends, make your enemies collapse in a faint at your brilliance. It means anything you want it to mean. The definition, when you finally read the whole thing, means “information(al)” … basically anything. I’ll have to rerun my “meaning of everything” post. It gives the definitions of epistemology and phenomenology so you too can know everything and be totally cool.

That has been the case more frequently than not in recent months … and a lot of people have asked why I bother. I guess I had been hoping for inspiration, but mostly, I got aggravation.

Thanks 🙂 I put up three posts a day on average — 1 photo, 1 something of my own and it could be anything. And one daily prompt. Sometimes the one I write for the prompt is the most popular, sometimes it’s something else. I would like to think my ability to have views doesn’t depend on the Daily Prompt! Because I’ve been doing this for more than 2 years … three in February — and the DP is a relative recent addition.

The Daily Prompt would generate ideas if they were worth anything, lately they are the same old same old, nothing that really gets you thinking or sparks a real thought process. You surely don’t need them as I believe you have plenty of worthwhile ideas you can turn into writing that will interest people and generate readers and comments. Just my 2 cents. 🙂

I guess using prompts was a kind of laziness. Instead of thinking about what to write, there was a ready-made idea. As everyone has commented, in recent months the quality of the prompts has dropped to the point where I’m mostly writing against the prompts and a lot of people ask why I bother. I find myself hard put to give a sensible answer.

WordPress’s attitude is unacceptable. They owe me an apology, which I won’t get. But I don’t have to let myself in for additional abuse.

Today’s prompt was one over the line for me. WordPress has made it VERY clear they don’t care about the prompts or those of us who follow them. They consider us losers and users, trying to find a hook to get more views without “doing the work.” I’m not guessing about this. They have told me so not once, but twice … on a public forum.

It isn’t why I do them. I doubt it’s the reason most of us do them. I’m looking for a little inspiration, and/or direction. Plus, I enjoy seeing how others approach the same subject and the back and forth of the community. As far as WP is concerned, we are pathetic losers trying to get them to generate traffic for us.

This time, I was sufficiently insulted that I can’t get past it. If I take a statistical hit, I’ll live with it. Sometimes, one has to move on and this (for me) is one of those times.

Huh, no wonder they don’t put any effort into their prompts. I do them for the same reason you do, inspiration and to see what others have to say about the same prompt. One would think they would be glad for people generating traffic to their sites though because that also generates traffic to WordPress in general. Right? Weird. Anyway, I’ll still be tracking your other entries, so I’ll see ya around. 🙂

Now and again I do my own thing, but am too lazy to do it all the time. I have my little programme, although now and again something comes in between. like one of my doctor visit’s or one of Mr. Swiss doctor visits. Next week he has two in one day, so I will probably be saying hello and goodbye. Will I miss you, I hope not, because I will always find you, no matter under which stone you crawl, or in which cave you hang around in. I will be there, you are never alone ha-ha-ha (ghostly threatening laugh). Definitely see you around Marilyn

I just can’t deal with WordPress. Maybe I’ll drop in and if they actually have a prompt worth writing, I’ll do it. I don’t need to be abused by the people whose services I buy. Meanwhile, turkey in the oven, pies baked. I’m wondering who is going to set the table. Not me, folks!

I couldn’t keep up with the daily prompt either, and chase orples at the same time, so the orples are winning, unless I can combine them with a challenge. My goal is one post a day, if time allows.
Speaking of orples, my book “How Orples Came To Be” evolved from guilt, when my father died. There were a lot was words left unsaid, so, ‘yes’, like you said, it can be too late, due to death. I’d mentioned all of this on my ‘about me’ page, but it is relevant to your post, so I mention it again, now. 😉
