How do you get rid of pesky phone calls from telemarketers?
I hang up. I used to be polite, but I discovered good manners just encourages them. So now, I don’t take blocked calls and if the phone keeps ringing, I press the answer button, then hang up. I don’t give them an opening. Not telemarketers, not survey takers. Not worthy causes. Most of the causes are scams. The survey takers are just trying to collect enough personal information to use you in a salable database.
I don’t buy anything from strangers on the telephone. I have had some hard, expensive lessons and I err on the side of caution.
What are you a “natural” at doing?
Writing. Also casual portraits and “postcard” pictures. Other kinds of photography, I have to work at. A macro lens would go a long way towards making ultra-closeups come out sharper.
How often do you get a haircut?
I used to get a haircut every few months, but instead of getting trimmed, I got mangled. I got tired of hairdressers who won’t listen or don’t seem to be able to grasp the concept of “a light trim, just the ends.” Finally, I developed an actual fear of haircuts and hair dressers. After my hair started getting long, I started trimming the ends myself. Now, I’m not even doing that. It just grows.
I don’t remember the last time I got a professional cut. It was more than a year ago. I suppose I’ll eventually have to get it done, but for now, letting it grow and be healthy works for me.
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “fun”?
Friends. Laughter. Roller coasters. Carousels. Boats. Life!

I cut my own hair too. There is something wrong when you pay a lot of money for a hair cut and you come home and have to do it all over again. So I eliminated the first step.
Still don’t know how you can stomach those roller coasters.

I have always loved roller coasters, since I was very young and my little pals and I went to Coney Island to ride the Cyclone. We were 8 years old and since then, it’s an addiction. My husband used to sky dive. I think it’s sort of the same thing, but the roller coaster costs less and probably is less likely to land you in a hospital bed 🙂
I’ve made hairdressing appointments and chickened out at the last minute. They’ll mutilate me, I just know it. Last night, I took a good look at my locks and realized they look pretty good. They could be a bit more even, but not bad. My last self trim did pretty well 🙂 And the price was right.

I think the thing that turned me off roller coasters was when my mother passed away we went to a carnival right after and it was a real downer.
Your hair looks good to me. I snip mine once a week. (just and the straggly ends, nothing major) Cutting it once a week makes stay the same length all the time.

Bad timing on that carnival. I think my coaster riding days are over anyway. My back found it highly objectionable last couple of times and Garry said he was done. We are officially, finally, too old.
My hair is still pretty even from the last snipping. I’m hoping to let it get a couple of inches longer and then keep it around shoulder blade length.

Definitely was bad timing for the carnival.
Shoulder length seems to look good on you and lets you wear it up or down.

This is the second SYW I’ve read where fun=roller coasters. Yeek! Not for me.
I always have some fun ideas on how to deal with telemarketers, but when push comes to shove I always end up trying to get rid of them politely (with limited success) 😦

I used to be polite. I really was. Until one day, Garry asked me “why do you bother” and since he’s the politest guy I know, I realized I was wasting my breath. You have NO idea how freeing just hanging up can be. Of course, sometimes it turns out to be the pharmacy or the doctor or something, but hey, there’s always a price to pay.

A recent “NCIS” episode had DiNozzo engaging a telemarketer with promises of the NSA and other government agencies calling HIS home during dinner hour.

Marilyn, you definitely have a gift for photography! Your photo of the flowers here is breathtaking! I love your writing style, as it flows as the gift it is as well. I can relate to this post! Telemarketers “no more” my phone hardly rings now. As a matter of fact, the marketers on my blog in a matter of 9 months only, have been busted to the tune of 10 thousand comments!!! I am a natural at connecting to people, in whatever way, writing has been very recent. As far as haircuts, I would probably love it if I could shave my head, as hair to me is pretty much a hassle. Thank you. I don’t take the kind of pictures that end up in museums, but they are pretty. Postcards from the Blackstone Valley 🙂
I get tons of spam, but fortunately, WordPress’s spam filters catch 95% of it. I just skim through it to make sure they haven’t caught one of my friends in the net. I am grateful for that, at least!

I guess that’s the kind of pictures I take. It could be worse. You should see the awful stuff my father used to take. He had expensive equipment and zero talent for photography 🙂

I always feel funny because I didn’t choose writing. It really DID choose me. Photography too. It was there, waiting. All I needed was the equipment and a little encouragement 🙂
