SEATING – CEE’S BLACK AND WHITE PHOTO CHALLENGE

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Table and Chairs, seating of any kind

Seating isn’t always chairs or benches. It can be the ground, a rock, the curb. The stairs. However, for the purposes of this challenge, I stayed with traditional places to park a human butt. Mostly chairs and one sofa, though you’d have to move one of the camera bags before settling down. Why, you may ask, do you keep all your cameras on the sofa? Is it so they will be right at hand when you need them?

Having them handy has been an unexpected bonus, but the reason is to keep the big hairy dog off the sofa. We tried everything else. For some reason, he’s wary of the camera bags. Shape? Size? No idea.

Do I feel guilty because we don’t let the our Australian Shepherd with the heaviest coat in the world have the sofa as his personal bed? Not really. If we were rich, we would buy him his own sofa, but he can’t have ours. He will have to settle for blankets on the floor. Sorry big fella. Sometimes, the humans win.

Garry gets the last word on seating. Because you can sit anywhere. This lady and her dog chose the beach at Barnstable at sunset. It’s the best seating of all.

  2. Great photos. My favourite is the last one. At least you know where your cameras are at all times.

    • Thanks. I’m working on improving my processing technique. The picture taking part is a lot easier for me than the processing. I’ve been taking pictures forever … but the software is complicated and learning to use it with a light hand is harder than it seems on the surface 🙂

  4. Marilyn you have a wonderful gallery of seating. I bet you wish you could see the green ground right now. I really like the single swing photo.

    • Thank you, Cee. I took that swing photo last October. I’ve never been happy with way it looked. The black and white is the most successful version. It was a classic swing in a big tree in Vermont. There is SO much color in the picture, the swing gets swallowed by the foliage. Black and white has saved it!

  5. In one of your posts this week, you wrote that if you couldn’t write, you don’t know who/what you would be. I know. You’d be a photographer. I love your photos. Even if they are of ordinary everyday objects, you know how to make them interesting.

    • Thank you 🙂 I’ve been taking pictures almost as long as I’ve been writing, since a friend gave me a camera when I was 22. Since retiring, I’ve learned a bit more and I thing my processing has improved … and living in a beautiful place helps too 🙂 Thank you again. I’m very glad you enjoy my work.

  7. Are the camera bags black in color? I know the cats at home are extremely wary of anything that color – not sure if that’s the case with dogs.

    • One bag is black, the other two are tan and all three are canvas. I think it may be the shape. And maybe the pointy corners. He could easily just push them aside, but he’s very wary of them. It’s funny, odd, but convenient.

      • Maybe they appear to be permanent fixtures to the doggies, and therefore unmovable.., not to mention uncomfortable to lie on. But, I guess, we need to stop trying to figure it out and just count the unexpected blessing.

        • We had been forced into some fairly complex and backbreaking methods to keep The Bishop off the sofa … and then, one day, I had taken out my cameras to reconfigure which bags would hold what camera … and Bishop decided he couldn’t go near those highly suspicious bags. Thank you Lord! They aren’t even big bags. He could easily lie next to them, but he won’t go near them. Hallelujah!
