TURQUOISE – THE SKY STONE

CEE’S FUN FOTO CHALLENGE: TEAL OR TURQUOISE

I thought and thought, and then I realized I had a lot of turquoise.

There are so many colors of turquoise, including many shades of green, nearly white, almost brown, with and without black veins.

Different mines create different colors (and quality) of turquoise. It depends on the what elements are in the soil — amount of iron versus copper, for example.

I love Native American jewelry. For me, it isn’t so much about the silver work, though I appreciate the art of it. I love the stones. The turquoise speaks to me. When I wear it, I feel more like me.

    TURQUOISE
    DECEMBER BIRTHSTONE

Turquoise is among the oldest known gemstones and its popularity has spanned the globe for centuries. It graced the necks of Egyptian Pharaohs and adorned the ceremonial dress of early Native Americans. This beautiful robin’s egg blue gemstone has been attributed with healing powers, promoting the wearer’s status and wealth, protecting from evil and bringing good luck.

Turquoise is an opaque, light to dark blue or blue-green gem with its finest color being an intense blue. Turquoise may contain narrow veins of other materials either isolated or as a network. They are usually black, brown, or yellowish-brown in color. Known as the matrix, these veins of color are sometimes in the form of an intricate pattern, called a spider web.

    • They do. And a lot of them are experimenting with modern take-offs on traditional design that are amazing. I think they are doing the most creative silver work in the wor.d! AND we are going back in January. I have to save my pennies. I know where they will be spent!!
