A Photo a Week: Neon Signs
From Nancy Merrill comes this interesting photo challenge:
IN A NEW POST CREATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE YOUR FAVORITE SHOTS OF NEON SIGNS.
And I have done it. This is the biggest neon sign in Worcester County. One of the biggest on the east coast. Erected in 1929, this hot dog lunch joint has been serving generations ever since.
It’s George’s Coney Island, on Southbridge Street, in Worcester, Massachusetts. If you’re in the area, hungry for hot dogs with the perfect ambiance, check it out!

Beautiful angle. This looks amazing. Already feeling hungry.

The hot dogs are not so special, but the place itself is quite amazing. Very Art Deco. They have never changed it from the original decor, just maintained it.

I originally saw it as George Clooney as well. Then I had another look and saw it wasn’t – sigh. Such an iconic Americana sign. Love it.

It’s a unique sign, made for this place many years ago. It’s a landmark here.

Didn’t wear my glasses at first I thought it was a post about George Clooney. Very disappointing lol

I’m sure George would stop there for at least a couple of dogs. They aren’t expensive, either. Very reasonable prices. A family restaurant par excellence.

I love good family restaurants, but can’t go there anymore. My diet is a little bit too complicated these days…oh well, it’s working so i guess it’s worth the effort.

I’ve been on a variety of special diets for decades. Sometimes I cheat, but I always regret it.

I am healing my gut, since almost every autoimmune disease starts with a so called “leaky gut”. I tried cheating too, but it threw me into agony for weeks. I found a balance that works for me.

I’m not sure — after more than 10 years of working at it — that I’ve found a balance yet. At least I know what to avoid. That’s something.

Same mistake here, Lady Bug. Man, that would be so cool. Hanging with George and his buddies and sharing tall tales while chowing down hot dogs.

You can hang out with his buddies and I take George 🙂

We might have to fight over that one.

I haven’t had a good hot dog in forever. Now I want one 🙂

That sounds like the “real” Coney Island to me. But of course, that’s in New York. Oh well. George’s is closer.

It’s super duper ambiance. Nathans hot dogs are MUCH better, but you can’t beat the atmosphere — or the price!

I certainly remember Nathan’s hotdogs. I used to get them at their shops in New Jersey as well as the boardwalk in Atlantic City.

The store bought ones are good … but the boardwalk version are the BEST.
