A PHOTO A WEEK CHALLENGE: ONE PHOTO, TWO TREATMENTS
This bouquet, shot close and in low light, lent itself particularly well to different treatments. In the first, the background is blacked out. Contrast and sharpness are up, shadows heightened.
The second treatment is color contrast and a bit of glow added, shadows reduced and the colors of the background brought up. Less detail with a generally softer treatment.

They are both great photos. Hard to choose.

I actually couldn’t choose. I like them equally. Both are an effective presentation and a non- photographer might not be able to tell the difference … but those of us who do photography couldn’t miss it 🙂 I knew you’d get it!

I never knew dark can be so dramatic and second one is so gently soft.

I love playing with photos. Rarely do I get a set that responds so nicely to varying treatments 🙂

Nice work, and wonderful explanations. Thanks for joining the challenge, Marilyn!

Thanks. I had the right pictures and they were very amenable to multiple presentations — including black and white, but I stuck to two. Because I did them for your challenge, I actually noted what I did so I could explain it and not just mumble incoherently 🙂

Both are equally beautiful ❤

Yes, I agree. I’m not sure what that proves except that there are lots of ways to make something better — and an equally large number of ways to ruin them!

Ah, this possibility is attached to everything and everyone. It is just about the precedence you give to some things over others. 🙂
