With the passing of the fuchsias, finally killed by the chilly nights, Garry suggested we get some mums. They are hardy well into November and frost resistant unless it snows (NO, NO, NO … NOT THAT!) …
And so the 2015 fuchsias passed into memory, while the two pots of mums took their place on the deck. They look wonderful with the background of bright autumn leaves.

I love chrysanthemums since I moved to the USA. Love the explosion of colors either in pots or in the ground. In my native France they symbolize death and on November 1 (La Toussaint or All Saint day) people bring a potted chrysanthemum on their loved ones’ tombs. My mom was very surprised once when one of my American friends offered me chrysanthemums when she came over for dinner.
Flowers and plants have different meanings, depending of cultures and countries.
For me, so many years after leaving France, chrysanthemums symbolize fall and not death.
Lovely photos, as always.

Yes, they are our compensation when all other flowers have gone away for the season. And they come in a zillion colors.

I’ve known them to last until they are finally buried in you-know-what. So they are my memory of seasons past … until they too pass.

Those photos make me want to run right out and get a couple of pots of mums for my front steps. And the nursery is just on the next block And today is my day off.. Hmmm.

They were pretty inexpensive. Got them at the grocery. They have a big display in front of the store, or did last week. Probably it’s all Halloween today.

I saw some in a gorgeous ruby red the other day. It never occurred to me I could bring them home and PHOTOGRAPH them. Guess I’m not much of a photographer yet.

That’s the good and bad of photography. After a while, life is just one long photo op.

Those are some great looking mums! My mom buys pots of them every year for her porch, brings back good memories. 😀

They are a very dependable semi-annual. They generally last two years when you plant them. Sometimes, a year or two more, but they aren’t true perennials. I wish they were!

They sometimes even come back! I have a couple white ones that have spread out. The colors are great to see.
