I don’t like horror movies, except the old ones which are more funny than scary. I thought Jurassic Park and Jaws were scary enough. Life is plenty full of thrills and chills without seeking out more.
Then, there are roller coasters. Especially our hometown favorite — the Cyclone at Coney Island.

It’s my favorite, beloved fear generator. Such a great ride! Been riding it since I was 8 years. I’m ready to go again. Just say the word.

Ah, the refreshing sounds of joy commingled with terror! What a great thing it is to be scared to death when one is at least theoretically safe.

What would it take for me to do it again? Proximity. And a good back day!

I remember you posting this picture before and I love it still!
I have a pic of me, my ex and M at Kings Dominion when M was about 4. He was already over the kiddie rides, so he is in the front seat of the little “coaster” and has his arms up the entire time. We didn’t go for a few years after that because we wanted to wait for him to be tall enough for the “real” rides

They are great pictures. There’s an automatic camera right as you go into that first, nearly perpendicular drop, so it’s always a good one 🙂 Notice my granddaughter’s ear-to-ear grin. Fearless.

I hate roller coasters. Even merry-go-rounds I’m not fond of. But I’d love to shoot one at night with the lights flashing. Would make a great photo!

They do make GREAT photos. The hard part is finding a point to focus on, but I found if I planted myself and kept shooting, I got quite a few good ones.

Oh, no….can’t do it….

My granddaughter loved it. She was 10 and had one broken arm in a cast. She did it with her old granny. Me 🙂

My daughter is ten! I’m sure she would have ridden with you, even if I would not 😉

I think my cyclone days are over. My back is still pursuing litigation.

How’s that going? A settlement in the offing?

I guess it’s a matter of personal taste 🙂 Garry used to jump out of airplanes for fun. Just thought I’d mention it.

To each his own, Marilyn. There’s no way on this sweet earth that I would jump out of an airplane.

No way. I would probably be the one in the newspaper the next day “Lady falls out of helter skelter” or something like that, or perhaps my first heart attack. I get nervous enough getting on the escalator and getting off at the local supermarket.

Most people don’t fall out. It’s usually the idiots who decide they should stand up, then fall out. In more than 80 years, no person sitting down has fallen out. As for heart failure, I’m not sure they have ever released the stats, but I’ll bet there have been a few. I’ve been riding this big bad boy since I was a little kid, so it’s not so much scary, as really hard on my bones and back. The last time we went — about 4 years ago — Garry said he didn’t think he could do it again. His bones were objecting loudly. Mine too … but I might do it once, just for the memories and a last scream.

“The Last Scream”. I like that as a title for a horror flick. BTW: I surfed our cable system (a horror in itself) and no where do I see Karloff, Lugosi and the classic horror films of yore scheduled for Halloween viewing. Say it ain’t so.

They are running Bela Lugosi”s Dracula at several movie theaters on Halloween night! Can’t wait.

Our local drive-in (yes, we have a real drive-in movie) has a double header this whole week: Nightmare on Elm Street — and — Friday The 13th.

I love roller coasters, although I won’t go on any that go upside-down.

I always said I wouldn’t go on one that goes upside down, but when we were in Williamsburg, I didn’t know it was going to do a corkscrew thing inside the tunnel where you can’t see it. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. We rode their three biggest roller coaster, then we got on our old person scooters and went to find something to eat. I have learned the hard way: roller coaster first. Lunch second.

I got nauseous just reading your description of the corkscrew inside the tunnel.

I thought they should have warned me. Fortunately, it was over quickly. That was a one-time-only.
