Favorite thing to photograph? Write? Or Cook?

Photography. I love taking pictures at night. It’s not the kind of photography at which I’m best, but I enjoy the challenge. Second favorite? Anything Autumn!

On December 2, 2015 and for the next 31 nights, Boston’s Prudential Tower will beam purple to raise awareness for ALS and the research at the ALS Therapy Development Institute.

Writing. I just like to write and have as long as I have known how to form words on paper. I write about history, personal stuff, humor, technology, books and book reviews, movies, television and of course, dogs. Anything, everything.

I’ll write about pretty much anything that tickles my imagination. I think I could give you a solid 500 words about nothing.

Did you like swinging as a child? Do you still get excited when you see a swing?

I still love swings. I used to go very high and recite Robert Louis Stevenson’s poem while I did it.

by Robert Louis Stevenson

How do you like to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!

Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
Rivers and trees and cattle and all
Over the countryside —

Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown —
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!

What has surprised you about blogging?

The friends I have made. The sense of family. I didn’t expect that. I was just looking for someplace to show off some pictures, maybe post some of the funny little things I write. I didn’t expect to make so many friends is so many fascinating places.

List at least five favorite desserts.

  1. Crème Brûlée — From New Orleans, my all-time favorite!
  2. Apple pie
  3. Bread pudding (another New Orleans recipe that I make myself, when I’m feeling ambitious)
  4. Tapioca pudding
  5. Rice pudding.

    • I sensed we were of similar minds about desserts 🙂 And many other things, too. The only thing that saves me is that some of these require lots of preparation … or a trip to New Orleans.

  1. Fun post to read and get to know you better. I especially love the poem and thinking about swinging as a child. Now swinging makes me feel queasy:-( unfortunately. Your desserts list is sublime.

    • I have the Paul Prudhomme recipe. It’s enough to put anyone with blood sugar issues into a coma. It’s SO good. Maybe I’ll make it for Christmas Eve. I’m just not sure my heart will survive it 🙂 It’s amazing what bread, butter, sugar and spice can become.

If I could make Creme Brulee, I would probably die of an overdose.

      • I wasn’t a swinger.
Desserts: Apple Pie, Rum Raisin Ice Cream, Mince Pie, Strawberry Ice Cream, Tapioca Pudding.
Frozen yogurt has replaced ice cream because of lactose issues. But I still love small portions of the rum raisin ice cream.
My “days of wine and roses” ice cream memory: The fully loaded banana boat from Mr. Softee.
