FEARFUL SYMMETRY

CEE’S COMPOSE YOURSELF PHOTO CHALLENGE: WEEK #14 SYMMETRY

From Cee:

This week’s Compose Yourself Photo Challenge (CCY) Theme is Symmetry.

For your weekly assignment I would like to see at least 4-6 photos of photos taken with symmetry in mind.  Please described what you learned in this lesson as well.

There are some subjects — roads, bridges, waterways and more — that simply want to be centered. It’s the only position that seems right.

Sometimes, you don't really have choice of placement. It IS in the middle and that's where it belongs.

In Garry's pictures, the vanishing point makes this centered, square picture work.

Both centered and shot tight, the cactus spikes form a distinct pattern.

Sometimes the picture goes TO the center, and the effect is of symmetry and centeredness.

If the vanishing point is in the middle, the pictures works well in the middle. If the two more-or-less equal sides of a picture are balanced and especially if they form a pattern, the picture will look fine centered.

Single subjects sometimes just beg to be placed front and center, too. Dogs, kids, portraits and some buildings. You know it when you see it!
