A PHOTO A WEEK CHALLENGE: PERSPECTIVE
From Nancy Merrill:
In a new post created for this challenge, share a photo (or two, or three) of interesting or unusual perspective.
Perspective is the first thing about composition I understood. I picked it up watching movies. I noticed how the cinematographers framed shots, always with something in the foreground to give perspective to the rest of the scene.
Whether I’m shooting a landscape, a sunrise, or a city street, I try to frame it so that you can tell the relative sizes of the objects and to some degree, the distance.
Perspective can make a sky seem bigger, or a prairie smaller. It’s all about perspective.

I love the wonderful architectural detail, the wonderful lines and angles in your first photo.

Beacon Hill. It has that great 19th century architecture. We lived there for about a year. I think we just wanted to experience living in that classic old neighborhood 🙂 Then, it was off to the country!

Great perspectives. i was given lessons on composition at school just before we went away on a school trip. Back then photography was so expensive so the teacher thought he would help us ensuring that our photos were half decent. That was the start of my photography passion.

I learned to be very economical in shooting because it was SO expensive to develop film! I still shoot too tight, even though I haven’t seen a roll of film in decades 🙂

You nailed it, Marilyn. Love the last photo with the sunset/sunrise on the water with the sail boats.

Thanks Leslie 🙂 That last one is one of my long time favorite pictures. It was a great sunrise on the 4th of July in Rockport, Massachusetts.

It conveys a peacefulness that is quite divine.

It was peaceful. Except for the 8 million mosquitoes. Apparently I was the ONLY warm-blooded creature available at 4:45 in the morning. I was highly motivated, but man, I was covered in mosquitoes. I looked fuzzy.

Oh, yah, those mosquitoes can be deadly.

The northern mosquitoes have a very short life, so they make up for it by being incredibly aggressive!

I can remember hanging the laundry out to dry and those little b@#$$* knew my hands were busy and they could eat you alive.

The first shot could be from “Western Union” (20th Century/ Fox/’40) Randolph Scott, Robert Young, Dean Jagger, Barton MacLane, and one of those pretty actresses named Jane or Anne.

If you remember, I had to walk a long way to get the shot. I could see it, but the only way it would work is if I could get the wires directly overhead and that turned out to be a much longer hike than it looked like when I started it. Worth it, yes? One of the shots I had to work for!

Worth it to get shot of singing wires.

I couldn’t hear them singing, but my hearing isn’t what it used to be 🙂
