UNSEEN ON TV SIGNS – CEE’S B & W PHOTO CHALLENGE

CEE’S BLACK & WHITE PHOTO CHALLENGE: STORE FRONT SIGNS

We live in an area that doesn’t have a whole lot of place to shop. The few malls we have are no less than 20 miles drive and they aren’t the huge malls you find in suburban areas near major cities. Nonetheless, with a little help from the internet, we make do.

  1. Lovely photos, Marilyn. I find the black and white does add a vintage look.
Never smoked and this was in the day and age when everyone smoked. Just an odd ball, I guess.

    • Thanks 🙂 We are only 2-1/2 miles out of “downtown,” but it’s a very different place. Town has sidewalks and streetlights, town water and sewers. We have none of that. Of course, we don’t have the bills to go with the services, so that’s something … Amazing what a difference a couple of miles make.

  4. I find that incredible too, Evil; I started smoking when they were a quarter a pack (and gas was a quarter a gallon) and by the time I quit 32 years later they were up to about four times that. maybe a bit more. I think most people buy unbranded cigarettes these days.

    • I started smoking in Israel where cigarettes were very cheap … and everyone (I do mean everyone) smoked. I never intended to start and was surprised that I had managed to get addicted anyway. The prices NOW are crazy. I think some illegal drugs are cheaper.

    • That’s cheap. A pack is more than $10 most places. I know when I quit smoking, I was amazed how much money I had. It stayed in my wallet and I rarely needed much cash. I’ve seen people choose to buy cigarettes rather than gasoline or food. I’ve seen people keep smoking when they already have cancer. There’s no explanation for it that would make sense to anyone who has sense.

      • OMG, if smokes were $10 a pack here, there’d be riots in the streets. It’s already hard enough on those who are counting their change on top of the convenience store counter to cough up the $7 or so a pack for the cheap stuff… and having to put back the milk or coffee they were gonna buy so they can get their cig fix. Our fitting room attendant is on portable oxygen, yet there she is every night when I go in to work… out in front of the building leaning on her apparatus and puffing away…

        • If she’s not careful, she’ll turn that oxygen tank into a nice little bomb! Quitting was hard … but so is dying of emphysema … not to mention being too poor to buy groceries. I really don’t get it.
