Last night, I spent close to an hour looking for something that was exactly where it was supposed to be. It was on the correct shelf, right in front. Nothing was hiding it. It wasn’t behind something, or turned the wrong way.
I looked there — twice — and I couldn’t see it. So I looked in all the other places I might possibly have put an unopened package of medication. There’s a cupboard in the kitchen where some stuff is stored. There’s a rack in the bathroom where other supplies are kept. Otherwise, it’s either my medicine cabinet or the cabinet over the john.
I searched the kitchen thoroughly , in the process finding and tossing out several bottles and tubes of prehistoric stuff that had to be at least a decade old and which I didn’t know I still had. But, I didn’t find what I was looking for.
Finally, I began to question if the container for which I was looking existed at all. I thought I’d bought two bottles of this stuff. It’s not expensive, so I would normally buy a couple of them and a time and stash the spare in my cupboard. But maybe I only thought I’d bought a spare. Maybe there was only one.
Before tucking myself into bed, I made a final pass at the cabinet over the toilet, my the default location for storing non-prescriptions meds and cosmetics … and there it was. Right in the middle. Where I had looked at least three times in the past hour.,
Despite my tendency to blame it on the dogs or on supernatural wee people, I suspected my eyes had been blind to the container. In a bright yellow box.
In bed, I told Garry I had just spent nearly an hour looking for something that was where it was supposed to be and where I had looked multiple times.
He was sympathetic. “Yes,” he said, “it happens.”
Yes. it happens. Is it eyes refusing to see? Or the brain unable (temporarily) to register information? Or maybe … it really is those pesky, wee brownies, fairies, and pixies messing with me.
You think?

Happens to me more than I’d like these days… Guess it’s just ‘part of the process’ as my PCP (an internist/geriatrics) might suggest to my query. Have a great week and don’t worry! xo

I’m just happy that the weather has cooled down so for me, it’s all good 🙂 You have a great week, too!

That happens to me too. Then I worry that my brain is on its way out.

I think we ALL worry about that. Maybe we are losing it, but let’s enjoy it 😂

One thing about this post is that there is a large segment of the population in a certain age range who find nothing strange about this situation at all because it happens to them routinely. 🙂

Yes, I know. I a ridiculous amount of time looking for things that aren’t lost and wondering why I’m in a particular room. If I had that time back, well, I could spend it looking for OTHER things that have gone missing 🙂 Maybe I’d even find something.

Oh, don’t you just hate that. That happens to me all the time. Actually my son did that last weekend. Which resulted in everything, and I mean everything in the lounge. I couldn’t find a floor. A good chance to look through and actually see what I had. And I found something that I have been looking for ages. Now it is all back after a mamoth effort of repacking in boxes. My storage room looks so tidy – wonder how long that will last.

I always find things I’ve been missing when I’m looking for something else. And I take the opportunity to dump stuff I find which I should have thrown away years ago. It never gets neater, though. It doesn’t get messier, but there’s still more “stuff” than places to put it.

I can identify with that. It’s almost like the proverbial lost sock. (as for the sock I really do believe there is a sock monster)

Well, dryers DO eat socks. They get sucked in behind the drum. Sometimes, a lot of them end up there. But that only accounts for some of them. They rest go to single-sock-heaven where they are reunited with other lonely single socks.

I rather thought that something like that was going on.

This just happened to me too but as I started writing this comment, I forgot the example I was going to share…………

I can’t explain it. That’s why I must be a supernatural being messing with my head because it can’t be ME.

Been there and done it all. I take a lot of photos, but do not dare to show my medicine cabinet. It has things inside that I do not even know what they are and why I have them. My problem is with my earrings. Only this morning I again dropped the little thing that fits on the earring at the back after it goes through the ear. Gold on a wooden floor cannot be seen so well. I found it eventually after moving the bedside table. I also discovered some dust in the space between the bed and the table.

Oh, those earring backs are tricky. But you’re lucky you just dropped the back. I have whole earrings disappear. Never the whole pair. Always just ONE. I bet there are hundreds of earring backs on my bedroom floor … which is covered with old shag carpeting that hides EVERYTHING. Including a LOT of dirt.

In plain sight. It happens to the best of us. A couple of my old TV news pals shared similar stories over lunch yesterday. We laughed at ourselves.

It’s called the “Senior Citizen Search Engine” and can be very thorough at finding things you lost previously, but not the thing you are presently searching for.., kind of the “Anti Google”, and only available to those of us over the age of 55+. Personally I think it’s yet another form of discrimination… 🙂

Yet, I’ve seen my granddaughter do it too. Garry says it’s because she and her whole generation have the attention span of ADD fleas.
