All nice feathers, but that Cardinal just calls to me. We don’t see many up here so I thank you for sharing that handsome guy. 🙂

We used to have a nesting pair here, but I didn’t see them this year. I’m hoping they will come back.

Great photos. Your photos remind me that I have some photos of a Korowhai – a Maori feather cloak. I should look it up (sigh) and use next week.

I’m sure indigenous peoples have wonderful crafts. For obvious reasons, I’m not familiar with crafts from other continents. I always wanted to visit New Zealand … even more now that it is where the Hobbits live 🙂

The birds are always a delight. That native American feather headdress is amazing.

I suspect it is meant entirely for display and has no ritual significance. But it was a VERY impressive piece with a lot of fine craftsmanship invested in it. I did NOT consider buying it! Talk about dust-catchers …

I know what you mean by a dust catcher but it looked like a lovely crafted item with so much detail. The chief must have worn it like a crown.

This one was quite small, so I think it was never intended for wear … though maybe it’s something of a “prototype.” That one was definitely for sale to tourists.

I bet it was very expensive.

I didn’t even look at the tag. I was afraid I might be tempted.

Don’t forget it would have been a real dust magnate.

It was the FIRST think I thought of when I saw it. That, and how likely one of the dogs was to think it was something that needed killing.

It was something to be admired but not acquired.

The birds are adorable! Huge, but so darn cute. The first bird looks like he is wearing a fur coat. Great snaps, Marilyn.

Thanks. The big guy is a Great Blue Heron. They live and nest in this area. They build their nests in trees. A tree full of these rather huge birds is quite a sight 🙂

You have interesting bird visitors. We do not get the colourful birds here, just the normal garden birds.

We have so many rivers and ponds and swamps which are natural nesting areas for water fowl, so it attracts them. Lots of geese, swans, ducks herons, egrets. Since the drought got worse, I see fewer birds than just a few years ago.
The only really bright garden bird we get is the that scarlet cardinal. We used to have a nesting pair on our property, but I haven’t see them or heard their call this season. I think all those caterpillars messed with the life cycle of everything.

The Cardinal is always a winner. Looks good on the baseball team.
