OCTOBER IN THE VALLEY

I don’t think we are going to be affected by the big storm that’s hitting the southern coast, though I’m betting we’ll get some of the rain. As long as we don’t get the big winds. I would hate to try to weather a Force 4 hurricane surrounded by all these trees.

Meanwhile, the brightest leaves continue on the banks of the river and canal. In a few days, it will bright Autumn will be everywhere.

All photographs taken by Garry or Marilyn along the banks of the Blackstone River in Mendon, where the river crosses under Route 16. Except for a couple in the Revolutionary War cemetery in town where the trees are always exceptionally bright.

  1. I saw the game got rained out today, so I hope you still have all of your pretty leaves to look at!

    • We’ll know more when the rain stops. There hasn’t been much wind, so with a little luck, autumn will continue. Considering how badly the Sox have been playing, it’s a small mercy that they got an extra day to collect themselves. They’ve been like this all year … a run of good performance, then they totally fall apart. Oy.

  5. Autumn is really setting in here with the much cooler nights. The leaves are turning and starting to fall. This year we have Fall raspberries. Usually we only get them around the 4th of July, but they are here again as more bird food.

    • In the last week, it has gone from all green, to definitely autumn. Not in our personal space. We lost too many leaves in the spring to those caterpillars. But elsewhere, where there was less damage, the foliage is coming up nicely.

      • I think we can expect good fall colors here in another week. If we wanted to road trip to Wisconsin, now would be the time.

      • That shot of me has a “The Third Man” quality….that final shot of Alida Valli walking out of the cemetery and past Joseph Cotten…zither music in the air.
