LOCAL FLAVOR – OCTOBER IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

OCTOBER AROUND MY TOWN

Living in a small town, when the nearest “real” city is 70 miles away, you find yourself taking many pictures of “local” because that’s what there is to photograph.

What luck that our local is also highly photogenic.

Long before we moved to the Blackstone Valley, we used to drive up here to see the leaves and buy the biggest pumpkin we could find.

This is October in the neighborhood.

    • This is almost exactly the same time they changed here last year. In New York, just a degree and a half of latitude lower, the leaves change about a week sooner, though weather makes a difference. I think montreal is just beginning to change, too. Lots of thing affect it, though. Proximity to water. The leaves are MUCH more colorful along the rivers than elsewhere. High ground vs. low ground. And the type of tree. The maples are the first really bright ones, but also the first to lose their leaves and become bare. Our oaks don’t have full leaves this year, so I doubt they’ll do much of anything. I’m just glad they didn’t all die.

    • We just came back in after shooting a LOT of frames by the river. Now, all the tress are lit up. I think we are probably very close to peak right now, but we get at least one more good week before the trees starts to go bare. I hope. Barring a storm, of course 🙂
