Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge: 2016 Week 42
We don’t use the room very often anymore. It’s just the two of us and sitting formally at the big table seems a bit of overkill for our dinners. It has become, by default, my museum. It has a lot of dolls. Art. Collectibles. The interesting odds and ends that I’ve bought, found, or been given through the years. These are a few. Please forgive the dust!
Tweedledum & Tweedledee … my favorite salt and pepper shakers. They make me laugh every time I look at them.
Rice and half an oven. We eat a lot of rice. A bit of ginger in the foreground. You’re right. This is the kitchen, but I liked the picture.
One old English china plate. Three very old Chinese porcelain astrological figures, and one old Chinese porcelain ginger jar.
Tableau … the top shelf in the small dining room armoire. I am nothing if not eclectic.

That music box with Peanuts characters was a gift from Garry to my son on my son’t third birthday, 44 years ago. A three year old was in no way going to not wreck a music box, so I adopted it. it stayed adopted. It doesn’t play well anymore, but it’s still looks pretty.

Tweedledum & Tweedledee are adorable. Do you keep ginger in your ginger jar? I see the ginger’s on a plate. I have a ginger jar too but I don’t keep ginger in it. I store our fresh ginger with the garlic in a bowl.

I tried keeping ginger in the jar, but it got stale too fast. So I keep it in a ziploc bag. Not so romantic, but more practical 🙂

If I had to eliminate a room in my house, the dining room would be the first to go. Love your S&P shakers–they made me smile, too.

The dining room was also the “project room” when there were kids around. And when I was still doing crafts. Now, though, it’s the place where things are displayed and I forget to dust.

Interesting assembly of odd balls. We also have a dining corner, where we never dine, just the two of us, but prefer the kitchen with its big table and homely feeling. If there are visitors, we will use the dining table, but even our son prefers the kitchen when he calls in.

We don’t have a place in the kitchen to eat, or I’m sure we’d eat there. I’ve always preferred a big kitchen to a formal dining room, but that’s the way this house is designed. For a long time, when the kids were living here, we used the dining room all the time and it still gets dusted for holidays and the occasional project. Nowadays, Garry and I eat in the living room. It’s the same distance from kitchen to living room or dining room and we don’t need the huge table that seats 12. It feels like we are in one of those awful mansions with those big echoing rooms.
