What animal walks on all fours in the morning, two in the afternoon and three in the evening? Man, since he crawls as a child then walks and uses a cane when he gets older.
No sooner spoken than broken. What is it? Silence.
I am weightless, but you can see me. Put me in a bucket, and I’ll make it lighter. What am I? A hole.
What is so fragile that when you say its name, you break it? Silence.
I have a tail, and I have a head, but I have no body. I am not a snake. What am I? A coin.
What falls, but does not break. What breaks, but does not fall? Night falls and day breaks.
You throw away the outside and cook the inside. Then you eat the outside and throw away the inside. What is it? An ear of corn.
I have holes in my top and bottom, my left and right, and in the middle. Yet I still hold water. What am I? A sponge.
What can run, but never walks
Has a mouth but never talks,
Has a head but never weeps,
Has a bed but never sleeps?
A river.
I never was, am always to be,
No one ever saw me, nor ever will,
And yet I am the confidence of all
To live and breathe on this terrestrial ball.
What am I?
Tomorrow.
I am the black child of a white father, a wingless bird, flying even to the clouds of heaven. I give birth to tears of mourning in pupils that meet me, even though there is no cause for grief, and at once on my birth I am dissolved into air. What am I? Smoke.
Pronounced as one letter and written with three.
Two letters there are, but two only in me.
I’m double, I’m single,
I’m black, blue, and gray.
I’m read from both ends,
Yet the same either way.
What am I?
An eye.
The final conundrum: How can we get ourselves into this mess?
Answer: I’ll let you know if I ever figure it out. Or, if you get there first, call me. I’ll be waiting!
Fantastic post, Marilyn. I only figured out three of them and as for how we got ourselves into this mess? It’s all thanks to you! Sharing… 🙂

Why is a raven like a writing desk?
Canon says there’s no answer, but so many people asked for one he gave this one: Because there’s a b in both and an n in neither.
It’s still the first thing I think of whenever I think of riddles.

Raven ends with an N. But the general consensus is that there really isn’t an answer for that one. Somewhere around here I have a copy of “The Annotated Alice” and they have about two pages of footnotes on that very subject 🙂

And neither have a b, which is why the answer is as nonsensical as the question. 🙂

I always figured that they both sound like they start with R. They don’t, but maybe it should be a “righting” desk.

Thank you. It was all Google. A few I already knew, but the rest, Google. It’s a great tool. You can find pretty much anything.

There were a few I wanted to include, but couldn’t quite remember the wording — or find them online. But these are rather fun — as long as the answer is included 🙂

The answer provides the instant ah ha moment. Otherwise I could be musing on it all day.

A couple of people have posted riddles without posting the answer. They should be arrested for cruelty to senior citizens 🙂

I would be mulling on that for hours. It’s simply not fair.

That is almost too much for a golden oldie brain, The only conundrums I now do are online.

Well, at least I gave you the answers 🙂 Some people just gave the question. That’s not fair!
