SHARING MY WORLD AS WE ROLL INTO WINTER

Share Your World – January 9, 2017

Winter always surprises me. It comes every year, but it always seems sudden when it shows up and shrouds the world in white.

If you lost a bet and had to dye your hair a color of the rainbow for a week, what color would it be?

I don’t need to lose a bet. I’m thinking about it anyway. I’d really like it shiny silver, but I don’t think that’s an option. If it were only for a week and I could change it to something less odd, I might go for dark blue with highlights. OR dark red with highlights.

Above shows my current hair color. It is also a test of my camera’s selfie function which I’ve never tried before … and illustrates how many filters I’ve acquired that improve a portrait so I can look more as I want to look — and less like the ancient crone into which I seem to be morphing.

If you could choose one word to focus on for 2017, what would it be?

HIDE! It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

What was one thing you learned last year that you added to your life?

A tree service to spray for insects and a cleaning service to get rid of the dirt! What a difference in the quality of life! Oh, and getting groceries delivered, at least the really heavy stuff so Garry doesn’t have to be the schlepper.

If life was ‘just a bowl of cherries’… which fruit other than a cherry would you be..?

A peach. Of course!

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

It was only 8 inches of snow and it was a nice, light, fluffy snow that even I could push with a shovel. And while it is cold, it isn’t nearly as cold as it could be and has been. And oil is still cheap, so the house is very comfortable.

I’m grateful that although Bonnie got sick, there was a doggy ER we could drive to that is open 24 hours and they are very good … and take payments. I hope we are snow-free for the next couple of weeks!

  1. I thought silver gray hair was in, or was that last week? I long for the days when woman could be crones, I have no inclination to spend loads of money, time and effort on the fountain of youth, I have resigned myself to aging – and well perhaps aging disgracefully, now that you’ve put the idea in my head 🙂

  2. Hey…. dark red or blue would make you look like one of my cartoon characters! I say go for it!

  3. Thanks for sharing Marilyn. I would go for a dark blue. 😀

    • My colorist also favors blue. I’m not sure. Because with basically white hair, any color I put it tends to be double-strong. I would like to not glow in the dark 🙂

  4. I’d probably go for purple – it’s my granddaughter’s favourite colour. I’d be a peach too.
On the subject of dying ones hair, our younger son died his blond hair black when he was a teenager. It didn’t take him long to see he looked awful. So we immediately started the process to remove the dye. We finally got his hair back to some degree but he did end up with some really orange stuff on the top of his head for a number of weeks. These are things you never forget. chuckle.

  5. Marilyn I think you should go for a colorful look- a subtle blue/green I think! Such pretty snow. I hope there’s no more to come 😀

    • I’m thinking about silver. But I’m also waiting on a consult with my colorist, AKA my granddaughter. She always knows what’s going on. She favors the blues and purples, but doesn’t shrink in the face of pink 🙂

  6. Only 8 inches of snow. That’s one big snow drift to me!

    • It’s a bit more than a dusting around here … and it’s a nice, light, fluffy snow. Even I could push it around, and I’m not exactly Ms. Muscles. We have some pretty hard winters this neck of the woods. Hard to figure why anyone wanted to settle here. Poor soil, horrible climate. But it’s pretty and we have good harbors, fisheries, and rivers. Still, there are so many better places.

  7. Now those are studio photos, something completely different. I have that selfie mode on my cameras and must admit have never used it, only on the phone camera. I should really try it out. We have gas floor heating, the centre of opeartions being in the cellar. I have really grown to love the floor heating – no heating pipes in the appartment and I do not have to keep my feet warm. This mornig they was a fresh layer of snow, but manageable and the main thing is I can stay at home.

    • This is actually the first time I’ve tried selfie mode. They came out better than expected, but I can say truthfully that processing was the bigger part of the pictures than just taking the pictures. Closeups are NOT flattering at my age!!

      • I remember coloring my hair black when the suits suggested my salt and pepper hair wasn’t the real me for TV news. It didn’t change what lurked and I didn’t really like the “younger” look. Now, I’m almost 16 years into retirement, have less mostly gray hair and don’t care about its color. I don’t do selfies. The mirror speaketh the harsh truth.

  8. Marilyn, dying your hair used to be only for women. I have had red white and blue hair (when I had some) but now have gone grey and keep it short. Given the option I think I’d choose to dye it orange again since that seemed to shock the older generation more than any other xoxo
