GOLDEN SUNSET AND COMING HOME

We had a great time. We really did. We talked and ate and watched stuff on television and Garry discovered the joy of virtual reality. It was terrific.

We were away three days and I have so many emails in my inbox, I can safely say I will never get to them. It is mass-delete time. I have to start fresh or I will be buried, never to emerge.

While we were driving home, the sky turned gold. It was something else. The tops of all the winter trees changed color too. It’s difficult taking pictures in the car. Windshield and all that, not to mention the annoying habit the dashboard has of popping up. But it got so remarkable, Garry pulled off the road, grabbed the camera and jumped out to take few more.

A very golden welcome home for us and a good thing. According to our weather forecasters, this is going to be the only sunny day for the week. Even a hint of snow is predicted by Friday. Spring will come. I have faith.

Garry and I have a lot of stuff to do in the next few weeks. Every now and again, the rest of life catches up with us. This is one of those times. Meanwhile, a few really pretty pictures from the road home. Don’t they look like autumn trees? They are actually fir trees topped with gold from the sun as it was setting.

    • It was quite a majestic thing to see. What was most amazing was that the green firs and the naked oaks and maples were all topped by that bright gold. I actually turned the color down a bit because it was so intense it looked fake. The only other time I’ve seen light like that was in Arizona on one night when the Phoenix Mountains turned scarlet against the sunset.

        • It was quite a show and I’m glad I had a camera. I even had to change batteries in the middle. What was strange was how the gold was on the top of the trees, but the rest were dark from shadows. Also, I’ve never seen a color like that anywhere. There was a true scarlet in Arizona, but this isn’t a color I’ve seen before in nature.

  3. Lovely! … and REALLY fortunate that those clouds did not bring intermittent rain!
(Who wants to come home to a Golden Shower???) 😎

    • We’ve got the rain NOW, but bright colors (especially magenta and red) at night usually mean a good day following. In the early morning, they mean rain.

“Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky at morning, sailor’s take warning.”

And that DOES having something to do with water crystals in the air and their reflection. But ANY strong color means something weatherwise. In this case, gold.

    • It really was fun. And Tom and I got to rant at each other for hours. It was a great stress relief. Garry can’t deal with the ranting, so he is VERY happy when I can rant at anyone else 🙂

    • Thank you! I had put the camera away, but finally, took it back out. It was amazing. I’ve seen this happen a couple of times, but never when all the fir trees turned gold like that. So out came the camera and finally, Garry needed to get out and take pictures too … I always wonder what makes that sun do that. It doesn’t happen often and it’s great when we just happen to be there to grab some pictures 😀
