Finally, the lilies have arrived. Today was their first day of blooming and only half the buds opened. If it is sunny tomorrow, I’m sure we’ll see the rest of them.

And only 5 weeks late! I suppose this proves that spring will come, even if it comes post solstice!

They really are. Tall and elegant and the colors, from the very dark orange to almost yellow are glorious. They originally came from India, but have spread out all over new England and are now truly a wild flower. We gathered them up from the road and the woods and planted them in our garden. More than half our flowers are basically wild. Probably that’s why they do so well, even with our awful weather and hard, stony ground.

These are very beautiful. One of the most impressive lilies. We also find them here.

They are from India. I think people planted them in gardens all over the world. They are so sturdy — and elegant, a most beloved wildflower.

Pretty flowers! I’ve tried growing lilies in a pot but they didn’t last long. Thank you for sharing!

These grow everywhere in New England. They were once a garden plant, but now they are pretty much wild. VERY sturdy outside. Don’t know if they would grow in a pot, though.
