THE NEWS AND NOTHING BUT – SHARING MY WORLD

List some of your favorites types of teas.

I like green tea with Japanese food. Black tea with everything else.

But mostly, I really like coffee. Tea is okay. I don’t hate it, but I have no real passion for tea.

If you had to describe your day as a traffic sign, what would it be?

What are a couple of things could people do for you on a really bad day that would really help you?

Make me laugh? Commiserate? Offer useful suggestions? Pass along the phone number for someone who has the skills to fix something? If it’s just sadness and grief, there’s little to be done except listen. If there’s an actual problem that can be fixed, I’m ready to listen.

I rarely complain about how I feel unless I’m really pissed off. I don’t like whining, mine or anyone else’s and I’m a big girl. At 70, I hope I’ve got enough self control to not need to publicly air my feelings on social media.

Regardless of your physical fitness, coördination or agility: If you could be an athlete what would do?

Bob-sledding. That always looked like serious fun. Furiously fast down an icy mountain? Assuming you don’t crash and break into little pieces, I think that would be great. Like skiing, but not having to balance on the poles.

  1. I’m with you on the coffee. I love the idea of bob sledding! Do you remember the movie Cool Runnings about the unlikely Jamaican Bob sledding team?

  2. There’s an Egyptian tea that is quite delightful. It has a hint of liquorice.

  4. Ive had to cut way back on coffee, and make a few changes, but with two or three cups a day it begins to matter a lot more. Tea is not my, um cuppa tea, I see it as a social drink that I share with someone else, but not as a beverage I indulge in by myself. It’s just not interesting enough.

I always wonder what the Brits put in their tea that makes it so strong (or what they consider strong) enough to brace them up for the next event…

As to coffee, black only, fairly strong, no sugar.

The only objection I have to any of this is, “I’ll have a coffee”. for me it’s “a cup of coffee” or “I’ll have coffee”. Maybe its a Canadian thing.

  5. I’ll take the athlete fantasy.

I’d be Roy Hobbs and hit cleanup for the Boston Red Sox. I’d make sure “wonderboy” didn’t have any holes.

  6. I’m the same as you with the tea. Coffee is preferred!

  7. I spite of our recent conversation, I’m a coffee drinker myself. Bur somewhere there is obviously an inbred passion for tea…

    • Before I liked coffee, I drank a lot of tea. Coffee is definitely a drink for which I have a greater passion, but good tea is okay and I actually quite like green teas. It has been growing on me, so to speak. I was looking at tea pots today. I realized anything I like is both way bigger than I need …. and shocking expensive. Yikes. Prices have really gone UP!

      • I was a tea drinker until I went to France…my mother’s coffee was always the cheapest instant stuff and tasted vile. Now I drink coffee.
I’d send you one if I thought it would survive the journey 😉

        • My mother had given me a set of dessert plates, cups and matching teapot that she had bought in England. It was bone china and very light. It never “survived” the trip from Israel because he broke all my stuff and never sent any of it. He went around smashing anything breakable and poured paint on the rest. Funny, because he wanted me to leave. I didn’t up and abandon him, but he had a pretty vile temper. I lot of things died with my belongings that day.

Otherwise, my parents coffee was not instant, but it was still vile. I couldn’t figure out why ANYONE would drink it. That was long before better coffee started to arrive. I don’t know if they even sell that stuff anymore. I have a (sealed) can of Columbian in my cabinet should a terrible day arrive when we are otherwise out of coffee … heaven forbid! We never run out of dog food, coffee, or creamer. We may starve, but not from lack of coffee. And, of course, the furry people are always fed.

  8. We golden oldies share the same outlooks on life according to our health issues. I gave up coffee many years ago because it gave up on me.
