WORLD SHARING – MID-AUGUST EDITION

Share Your World – August 14, 2017

When you leave a room, do you turn the lights off behind you or keep the lights on throughout your house most of the time?

I leave on this 40 watt bulb as the living room night-light. I got tired of bashing my toes.

Usually. Except when I forget. Ditto Garry. Except when he forgets. It’s the one thing we can’t blame on the dogs, but I’ve been known to try.

What do you feel is the most enjoyable way to spend $500?

Put it into our depleted “savings” account. It’s really not a savings account, exactly. More like our “last-ditch” money to deal with household catastrophes, damaged plumbing, clogged drains, broken stuff that needs replacement. Because no matter how you think you’ve finally fixed everything, something, somewhere is waiting to break.

There used to be more money, but stuff happened. Now, we live in hope of seeing it by some miracle, reinvigorated.

Complete this sentence: My favorite thing to do on my cell phone is…

Turn it off and leave it off until the next on-the-road or WiFi out emergency. I do not like cell phones.

What inspired you this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

I finally got antibiotics for an infection I’ve been ignoring for a really long time. Progress, I think. Not much of an inspiration, but it’s the best I can do.

This has been a rough week for anyone who cares about this country.

  1. Cell phones and mobile datas (Internet) are quite practical sometimes. …. otherwise I could not write this now at a nice place far from home. But besides I also like the analog world very much which has accompanied all my life. The virtual reality is a quite new development greatly overvalued by many people. What is really real? To be discovered each and every day!!

    • I like HAVING a cell phone, but the quality of voice on it is pathetic — even on the most expensive phones. They make cute little computers, but I don’t like them as computers. I usually want to make a phone call … the one thing they have “forgotten” how to do!

  2. We have “savings” accounts in this country too. The Bank of England base rate is so low both my savings accounts are at 0.05% interest. I can save more money by skipping one coffee than by having every penny I have in a savings account for a year 😦

    • That too. Savings accounts give interest rates so low they are only there as a way to keep you from using the money to pay the mortgage. They are always ready to cell you something with higher interest — some kind of CD or other account, much dicier, not insured … and then maybe you’ll get (gasp) 1%!

  3. I really enjoyed your responses! Especially that bit about the $500. Be consoled. You aren’t alone… and gawd. I hope nothing is waiting to break in my piece of the world. I can’t afford it!
