YELLOW WILDFLOWERS IN THE GORGE

There were some amazing wildflowers in the gorge … and some amazing and rather huge bees. I assume they were bumblebees because they seems too big for honeybees. Wherever I went, the bees seemed to follow me. Or maybe there were that many bees. If so, I’m glad. There’s no such thing as too many bees!

  3. Day lilies, goldenrod, jewelweed. The day lily looks like a Stella de Oro. The ones that develop a seed pot get eaten, then later redeposited elsewhere. Jewelweed is a great medicinal plant. Goldenrod makes my eyes water. 🙂

    • PS Is it possible Roger Jardin lived nearby?

    • Goldenrod makes me sneeze! It’s pretty, but a big allergen. I thought those lilies look like garden lilies. They don’t look at all like the “wild” ones — the tall orange ones — I’ve got.

I have a lot of jewelweed on my property, but I’ve never seen it bloom. It gets HUGE, but never any flowers on it. So THAT’S what it looks like!

  4. Love the front-on shot of the Bee 🙂

I’ve seen a very similar photo and flower on google images under yellow jewelweed. Check it out and see if you agree? 🙂

    • He was ON the bee when I started, but he took off and it looked like he was heading into the lens. Actually, I was quite a few feet away, but on a long lens. I have tons of jewelweed here and am always cutting it down, so I never see it bloom!

  5. Definitely golden rod, I have some in my garden. Perhaps your mega bees were hornets.

    • No, bumblebees. I have hornets and wasps and a LOT of them. They love my house and are always building their nests on my roof or in my electric input box. And they are mean bastards and they don’t pollinate. They DO eat other insects, however, so they are not just mean. Anyway, these are fuzzy and round. The hornets and wasps are elongated … and they don’t hang around flowers. They hang around me and sting. They really LOVE me.

    • Thank you 🙂 I wish I knew the names of the flowers. They don’t look wild. They look like garden flowers. The bees were spectacular.

      • Lilies, Goldenrod and I’m trying to think what the third one is that looks like a cross between a sweet pea and a miniature wild iris..I’ll think on it.

        • I don’t know if any of them are lilies because I have a lot of lilies in my garden, all taken from the roadside and woods. These certainly resemble them, but if they are lilies, i’ve never seen them before. The goldenrod, I know. That third one might be some form of spiderwort. I have it in dark blue, but I think it comes in other colors. All my flowers are wild except for the rose hedges.

Okay. Maybe it’s a garden lily that got replanted by a bird? There is a garden lily that this looks like … but these were definitely wild. Beautiful. I wish MY garden looked that good.

      • Damn. Been looking for an hour and can”t identify your other flower.. It reminds me of a cross between a sweet pea, a slipper wort and a miniature iris, but is none of the above, and the leaf is unlike any of them..Guess I have to give up. I’m getting a headache wrinkling my forehead over this… ha. (Literally.)
