I guess I should read up on a history of the Tuskegee Airmen. Oh, I’ve heard of them. And I know the basic facts. But what struck me just now with this post is how did they ever learn to fly? Were they pilots before the war? Or were they taught while in the armed forces? Either answer doesn’t seem plausible to me if they were seen as merely servants and of lesser intelligence. OK, don’t give me any easy answers. I’m off to read.

It’s a really interesting story. You may find it more interesting than you imagined. I think there’s also a movie or two (more maybe).

Now that’s really flying (by the seat of your pants).

As long as you didn’t explode, you could always glide to the ground. Presumably.

This beautifully shot images made me research Tuskegee Airmen more. Thank you for the introduction, Marilyn.

They are an important organization for Black men especially. At a time when most Black men were essentially servants in the armed forces, these men were brilliant flyers.

Not sure if I’d feel safe in one of those…

You wouldn’t be safe, but you’d have lot of fun. Hang gliding … without the glide part.
