Not snow – Connecticut
They promised it wouldn’t snow yet, but … Well, to a degree, we are lucky. If we get out of here soon, we might outrun it since it is moving north and so are we. Havn’t done anything with these pictures. No processing software, but snow is coming down pretty hard.
The snow started early, here, but it may not have started yet at home. The storm is moving up the coast, with snow predicted as far south as Georgia — which, for you non-Americans, is very rare. It does not snow down there. Oh, and snow in Texas — even MORE rare.
Early snow, but getting heavier by the minute. Sigh.
I’m having coffee. And toast. Garry’s in the shower. I took a couple of pictures … no processing because I don’t have any tools for it on this computer, but it’s very pretty. I would have preferred to not drive through it. 
We have a jeep and if we move out soon, we might beat the worst of it. If not, it’s still just three to six inches expected and it could be less. Okay, it could also be more, but it’s early so with a little luck, this will be a little on.
Not going to be one of the snow-free years, I guess.
Love you all, but won’t be back on for some hours yet!

I have it on good authority that it snows (and especially ices) in the South a lot more than Southerners would ever like to admit to…. because if they did, their ‘OMG! Snow! What are we gonna do?” cries wouldn’t look as endearing as they seem.
As for me in the middle of the country… we’re on about one full year now without a snow, which is very odd. I’m gonna forget how to drive on the stuff before long…

The bigger worry is running out of water. I swear, this whole country is drying up. We still get rain, but not enough and by the end of summer, all our streams are nearly dry and the ponds are just mud. This little storm — winding up with four or five inches — won’t go nearly far enough in getting some water into the aquifer.
California is tinder. The entire northwest is tinder, including up into the higher mountains in Nevada which should be snowing by now. It should be cold and snowy and it isn’t cold OR snowy. I do not like the snow, but I like water.

It looks like we’ll get somewhere between six and eight, but this swatch of New England, on upward into New Hampshire always seems to get more. I wasn’t ready for this. GLAD we got a Jeep!

I took some more when I got home. I would have taken more on the way home, but I, er, left my camera in Connecticut. More accurately, it fell out of my bag on the way to the car. Oops.

Apparently it has also snows all through the deep south and in Texas and Louisiana. Some clever reporter commented that people in Louisiana aren’t used to driving on ice.

No one down here knows how to drive on ice. If it wasn’t so treacherous, it would be a riot. It happens so infrequently that everything shuts down! Gotta love the South.

Ha! Lisa–it was crazy! I looked out the window and our neighbor’s roof was covered with snow and so were the roofs of our cars. Not much but it was a sight to see!

We decided to stay one more night with the Curleys, so I called my son and said “Can you take care of the dogs one more day?”
And he said “Sure, but you better get home early before the snow really hits.”
And I said “SNOW? WHAT SNOW?”
Thus we learned of upcoming weather. NO idea it was coming.

We have a Jeep. I was VERY glad we have a Jeep. There were also enough accidents to remind us to drive carefully. It’s the first snow and everyone forgot how to drive in snow. They’ll remember soon enough, I suppose.

Slowly, slowly. The plows were in all three lanes going 20 MPH … and there wasn’t any snow on the road, so they weren’t cleaning anything. Maybe they were practicing? But we’re fine. Tired. It was a 2 hours drive that took four hours.

I’m on the Cape, so it is raining all day, but I have 5 inches or so to look forward to when I get back to NH tomorrow…. Safe journeys home!

The Cape isn’t supposed to get much snow, but parts of New Hampshire are getting a nice tidy 7 inches or so. It’s a little early, for my taste. I wanted it to wait at least another month. Oh well.

I will, but I need a bit of time. The news has been so … intense … we never actually watched anything else. No weather, sports. When i called my son and asked him if he could watch the dogs one more night, he said “But you need to get home before the snow gets bad.”
And I said “SNOW? WHAT SNOW?”
Tom looked up the weather and damn, snow. Everywhere.

I know, the news has been like a train wreck lately so it’s hard not to watch, but I am a bit of a weather nerd. I don’t watch anything (I don’t like TV), but my wife keeps CNN on all day. Hope you don’t have to wait too long for the snow to be cleared.

I’m counting on it melting over the next couple of days and we have the jeep parked at the top of the drive, so we can get out, even with the mess. No one had a plow arranged yet. Summer lasted so long and it has been so warm, we all lost track of the possibility of winter.
Normally WE watch at least the weather and Garry, in season (baseball) watches sports, but the news has been so bizarre. It’s like Watergate when I was glued to the radio and TV for months as the hearings clicked along.

Mother Nature has abandoned us apparently. Or lost her damn sense. Because here in Utah, where it’s SUPPOSED to snow, we got one storm and pffffttt. No more. Not for weeks and perhaps months. So send the snow our way, we could use it…we’ll miss it greatly next summer when it’s 110 in the shade and our supply of water is drying up. Plus a few good storms would help clear out the gunk hovering over this part of them United States…we’re warned that the air quality is going to get worse and worse over the next couple of weeks. It’s already a dingy gray brown down around Salt Lake City, and I’ve seen haze even up here where I’ve celebrated the fact I can breathe unsullied air. No more. Funny a bit. We never want what we get, do we?

We had a few flurries today, but luckily the roads were kept clean. My son managed a 2 hour drive without any big problems. Hope everything stays good on your side.

It got a bit heavier than expected … more like 7 inches than three or four, but for us that’s not a lot. Mostly, our ride was very slow because of accident — I think we saw at least four, one of them serious. And then, there were the snow plows. They had three giant ones side by side cleaning the road. No one could pass or go around them because that’s a main highway. It slowed traffic to a crawl. As soon as the plows left, we drove a couple of miles … and there were more plows. They turned off and we came into Massachusetts.
PLOWS. PLOWS. EVERYWHERE PLOWS. At that point, there was not much snow on the ground, either, so they weren’t really cleaning anything. The roads were just wet on the main road, thought the entries and exits were slick with slush and ice. More snow Tuesday. I guess winter arrived after all.
