I’m not making this up. That’s what it says on the calendar “a holiday per day” app I have.
“The second Monday of January each year recognizes National Clean Off Your Desk Day as an opportunity to begin your new year with a clean and organized work-space. Whether in a private or shared office, cubicle, home or a make-shift desk on the counter, having an uncluttered, organized, refreshed, and clean place to work will improve your efficiency and improve your serenity.”
Or, in my case, a place to store the Christmas tree for another year.
This is good because I was actually planning to clean off my unused desk so I can put the Christmas tree there to await next Christmas. We had been putting it in the attic, but the ladder to our attic is getting increasingly rickety. Every time Owen goes up that ladder I wince. I’m sure it’s going to collapse under him.
Previously, my office. Now it has the guest bed and the Christmas presents that still need wrapping. And, of course, a giant oak desk. Anyone need a giant oak desk?
I decided this year, since we aren’t really using the room or the desk for anything much, why not put the tree and the nutcrackers there, thus saving Owen from a death-defying clamber up a creaky old ladder.
So. Just this once, I’m aligned with the calendar. I am cleaning off my desk on the official day. Are you impressed?

I’d have gotten to it anyway … probably. But yeah, being snowed in, there’s all that lingering dirt to clean. So how come the house isn’t spic & span? Am I falling down on the job?

Forget “One” day.., I’ve been workin’ on cleaning my desk for over 2 months now. I keep getting distracted by other stuff, like the Holidays etc.

Garry’s got you beat. He has been doing it for at least 10 years and oddly, it never gets any better. THAT is why I cleaned out MY office for you. Garry’s office is beyond human help. He needs Superman or Hercules.

I love your spunk! My desk is 10 feet long against one wall and 6 ft on the other. So I can spread out my stuff….sometimes it can look messy with a piece of paper sitting on it, at others, it really is messy. My son built me a desk right onto the wall. It houses my box (internet box) printer, 3 monitors and 2 keyboards. My actual monitor is a tv attached to the wall on a swing arm. Since at times my daughter comes over to use my computer and the kids as well for school projects, it is an ideal situation all things considered.

My desk was the largest I could fit into the space. Not as big as yours, obviously, but no one but me ever used it. I’m not possessive about most things, but I’m very possessive about my computer. For a while, I shared it with Garry and that almost led to bloodshed!

LMAO I hate sharing mine, but there isn’t an alternative unless I buy another and I can’t use a lap top. I’ve never learned and it’s beyond me because of my sight. With a regular computer, I know what where when etc. I do hate giving up my time even though it’s necessary for kids and school work, although we bought them mini computers for their trip and they can do school work on those so now I only have to share with my daughter hehe and she loves her games! lol

I’ve heard it said that a messy desk is a sign of a disorganized mind. I think it is a sign of a very busy and creative individual. So as long as you can still find your things here’s to a little chaos.

I agree. My desk was never disorganized, but it was always busy with various projects. I haven’t been using it recently since all my projects are online, so the desk tends to hold the various manuscripts and receipts and around Christmas, gifts and wrapping paper. But it was the opposite of disorganized. I knew exactly where everything was and that for me is the point of a desk. So I can find all that stuff!

The good news about having, for most of my computing needs, migrated from my laptop, which sits on my desk, not my lap, to my iPhone, which I hold in my hand, is that my desk now remains relatively clean.

Mine is relatively clean. You should have seen it when I was REALLY using it. That wasn’t messy — just insanely busy.

Don’t want to be a showoff, but have nothing on my desk to clean off except for the plug connections for my computer. I need the space for my computers.

I used to use my desk. What was left were truly “leftovers” from when it was where I did all my work Writing books was a busy thing, so there were always piles of manuscripts. Now, it’s just … well … I don’t even KNOW what it is. Mostly old bills and stuff I need to save, but will probably never really need.

Well, something different to do with a HUGE desk. It doesn’t really do much anymore, but it’s a big, flat surface and you just never know when you’ll need one of them 🙂

Just got in. Car not unpacked but I’m online! Annie only cried LOUD for the first hour. Then I moved her bed, she hopped into her kitty tray–with litter–and rode there for the next 4.5 hours. Go figure.
