I slogged out in bitter cold weather with a blizzard blowing … and a camera in my frozen fingers. What a guy, eh? It was like working. More fun. Less pay. You ask for chill? These were cold, cold pictures. I had some serious defrosting to do when I got back in the house.

It’s been bitter and deep this year.
The hospitals are probably full of geezers like me who had heart attacks shoveling snow.
and I expect a mass exodus out of the Maritimes this year where the winters have become intolerable there. I usually say that we are ‘home free’ after February, but these days who knows?

MID FEBRUARY…..we’ll see.

They are predicting snow by the end of the weekend. We aren’t done these days until April. The MIDDLE of April.

Yeah. Blizzard weather. Well below zero, high winds, heavy snow.

😦 Yep. Our winter has not — strangely — brought that this year. La Nina, I’m told.

We have — for us — had a mild winter. Only two blizzards.

Go Garry! Lovely. Really. Captured the essence of the moment, beauty and I can feel the winds blowing the snow around.

But afterwards you have that “Scott of the Antarctic” feeling

His hands felt like ice cubes. I remember when he used to work the blizzard and hurricane circuit. I used to have to spend half the night defrosting him.

What a hero! Appreciate your intrepid blizzard braving, Garry.

Nobody could have convinced me to go out there! It was really miserable. But the man is brave and his camera is weather resistant. Go Garry!

I think the B&W actuates the cold Garry. Well done! It’s been quite a winter.

There isn’t much color in the landscape during a blizzard anyway, so this just accentuates the lines. It does lose some of the snow details, but you have to choose between the two. I went with lines and design. I may change my mind and do it a
different way next time.

They certainly convey the cold. Good for you, and sorry about the frozen body bits–

The wind was running 40-50 mph, which is serious wind and it was nearly zero. Classic blizzard. He was a braver man than I AND the pictures came out good, too.

Terrible–that wind makes it really feel as cold as the photos imply. Bravely done, both of you!

I only bravely processed. He went forth, so he definitely gets the medal.

That’s still a winning team, but he can stand in the front on the podium.

Garry, these are wonderful photos. But I think the “beware of dog” should read “beware of snow” or “gate closed until spring thaw”.

I completely agree. I have gone out as little as possible. The older I get, the more inhospitable I find our winter.
