Earth Day where the morons trash one more park in honor of our home planet. Go Evil Squirrel!
Happy Earth Day! Though I’m far from a tree hugging environmentalist, even I agree it should be common sense to do what we can to take care of this planet. It’s not like we can all just move to Uranus if we mess this one up. BTW, Mobil One (As in the oil) has an Earth Day Drive Away contest Mecca is helping promote where the grand prize is a gas guzzling SUV. I fucking kid you not…
Anyway, with that said, here is The Nest’s tribute to the greenest of all days. I know Marilyn will enjoy seeing this one again. It was inspired by Walt Kelly’s famous 1971 Earth Day comic that ran in his Pogo strip. We have met the enemy, and he is us…
This was Comic #156.

Yep … us humans are the only critters I know that have garbage.
And we got lots.
We’re highly intelligent you know.

Did we have this much trash when we were younger? I don’t even remember. I know we didn’t think about it. It was just the trash and the big truck came and took it to the giant hole in the earth which will never fill up because it is infinite. Like our garbage.

So, unfortunately, true. Why the hell do people litter? Too damn lazy to find garbage can or disposal? How would they like it if we just tossed litter on their lawn or front walk?

I actually carry garbage around in my pocket until I can fins some place to hopefully recycle it. But even I can be better.

I try to keep bags in the car so I can dispose of it when I get somewhere with trash cans. I’ve also been known to leave on on the floor of the car until I find an appropriate place for it. But throwing it out the window? Really?

I remember covering the FIRST “EARTH DAY” …a mega international event with vows to clean up our planet and change our ways of treating the environment. What the heck happened?

I sincerly think its high time everyone should understand the importance of keeping our planet clean but sadly its getting worse by each passing day. For such irresponsible humans my message will be.. Not for planet .. atleast for your own sake keep it clean.

I don’t remember who said it, but it was a writer. Sci fi? Maybe Terry Pratchett? That if humans lived longer, we’d take better care of our world. We’d live to see the horrors we create. As it is, we die before we see what we’ve done.

Word to word true… Its painful to see our Earth losing beauty by each passing day.
