      1. Yes — several years ago I befriended a colony of great blue herons — probably about 20 adult birds and their chicks in a group of nests about 50 feet above a parking lot by the beach. They are wonderful birds to know, and to photograph! They have quite a social structure, and seem to watch out for each other. And they are truly majestic in flight!
