Flower of the Day
They are true blue, but for some reason no matter what camera I use, show up as purple. Something about the way the light hits it. I finally got them back to their natural color, which is a rich, cornflower blue.

I didn’t even know they had another name. Everyone here calls them spiderwort.

Funny, since I tried to find them for years and buy more, and knew no other name by the mispronounced Latin one!

All my flowers, with the exception of the barbed wire roses. Which were probably wild at one point. We have really difficult seasons here and the wild ones survive. I’ve planted all kinds of fancy things and they bloom for a year or two, then they just die. From too much cold, too much ice, too much snow, too little (or too much) rain.

I think that is what my daughter uses as a round cover. They are very pretty.

Wild and healthy, too. I’ve given up on fancier plants. Only the wild ones seem to do well in this climate.

I have never seen them here but are very pretty. I find blue always a difficult colour to capture according to the light

It is a wildflower, but I moved it to my garden because it is very pretty and unlike my many fancier flowers, it’s alive and spreading.
For some reason, it comes out bright purple in pictures. I had to find a way to adjust the color, which should be dark blue. I finally got the color right, but it was frustrating because it looked fine to my eyes, but all wrong in the photographs.

Silly me, I had a look in Wikipedia. I know it as tradescantia, and have one big plant in my garden that returns every year

They grow wild all over the place, but they aren’t very showy compared to the lilies, for example. I transplanted a bunch of them to my garden and they are thriving. Just as well. Really, only the wildflowers are doing well. Everything else died in the long winter.
