This is one of the things they are doing to try to clean up the mess.
Plastic was long considered to be a revolutionary material. But, what has it turned into now? A trash – and millions of tons of it end up in the ocean every year. Of course there are plenty of attempts to thwart this growing problem, but this approach by the Ocean Cleanup seems to be the most effective. Here’s how it works.
THIS IS COOL. I WANT TO LEARN SOMETHING ELSE, TOO!

I’m impressed. That ocean clean up process actually gives one hope that some of our sins can be forgiven.., albeit in small, but steady, amounts

So after they clean it up, what do they DO with it? You know that giant hole into which we eternally throw our trash so it is gone forever? We REALLY need one.

Later in the video it explains what can happen to all that plastic. It gets recycled into eyeglass frames, shopping baskets, ballpoint pens and other plastic products labeled “durable” and, forgive me for saying it, maybe even new plastic bottles. So.., does the cycle simply repeat itself?

Nope. Plastics. That’s what they said in the movie, anyhow.

I can see this might work — but what do they do with all the garbage next? Where does it go? That’s why I think the REAL question is “how can we make less trash?” They’ve got a better grip on this in Europe than we do in the U.S. We need a universal solution and some serious thought given not so much to the cleanup — we have to do that too, mind you — but to NOT filthying the planet in the first place.
