IS THE U.S. CAPABLE OF BEING A LEGITIMATE NATION? – Marilyn Armstrong

FOWC with Fandango — Heart

Yesterday was some kind of turning point for me. My heart broke. Because the same shit that I went through as a young woman is still happening and now we are going to sit one of these shitbags on the Supreme Court.

Shame on us, shame on our political system and its keepers.

I’ll vote. I’ll write. But I think I’m losing hope, heart and any kind of faith that we are capable of running a nation.

  1. I feel the same way. I like to think of myself as an unemotional, rational, pragmatic person, but to be honest, I’m on the verge of tears at what has become of this country. It’s breaking my heart.

  2. I had to have a talk with my 30 year old son about what to do if he has to deal with the Police under ANY circumstance because he is Latino and he looks ‘scary’. I have that talk with him EVERY SINGLE TIME I read about a person of color being shot by a police officer for standing in their own back yard, or standing in their own living room, or walking down the street with a package of skittles in their pocket. I haven’t felt like this is a legitimate or fair country for a while now. And btw…thank you for this post and giving us all a place to speak up.

    1. The only reason Garry got a pass on some of it — and really by NO means all of it! — was because he was on TV. He didn’t get shot, but he got roughed up and he knows that “look.” I guess everyone who isn’t white knows that look. I don’t understand how we got this awful. I just don’t GET it.

  3. This is one of those times I wish WordPress had a button that said something other than “like” . I’ve read several posts today expressing, sadness, despair and anger at what is going on. I didn’t see any of the proceedings on television here, they may have shown some but I don’t watch the news any more. I heard the outcome on morning radio reduced to a couple of matter of fact sentences. Now I know it was so much worse than they made it sound.

  4. What struck me as a total ‘outsider’ was the calm and overwhelmingly quiet, composed speak of Dr Ford and the undescribable rant of all the others. I had to stop watching, it was so mindblowingly wrong and heartwrenchingly hurtful.
