Japanese Maple Tree – FOTD – November 8, 2018
When all the other maple trees are bare and almost all of the oak leaves have fallen, suddenly, my Japanese maple tree lit up like a neon sign.
I have had this tree since I brought it home from Maryland in a bucket. It was not even a foot tall. Now it’s about 20-feet tall, though it still needs a bit of support. It usually turns red in the fall — but not like this.
This was neon sign nightclub light flashing colors. I not only didn’t add saturation to the pictures. I actually reduced it a bit because it was a bit blinding.
We’re supposed to have another not rainy day tomorrow, so maybe I’ll take more pictures!

Japanese maples are beautiful! Yours are brighter than the ones I’ve seen around here, which tend to turn a dark red, almost a red wine color.

Mine is green until fall, but this is the first time it really fully changed color. It’s the ONLY tree the gave me great color this year.

That is the single thing I missed most when I left Canada – those magic wonderful maple trees. For years and years to come I always had one or two Japanese Maple Trees in pots for my private joy…. and in rememberance of those Canadian maples.

Simply stunning! Thanks for sharing with those of us who got a brownish grey with maybe a little gold in our leaves affair. Those fire bushes were the saving grace, they turn roughly the shade of your maple, but otherwise…bleah and bland was Utah’s Autumn colors…maybe it’s mourning yet another – however long – of red politics hereabouts and thinks that’s enough red for anybody.

I think it was the extremely windy, warm, and wet weather. Now it’s cold and we’ve had two whole days of sun, but rain tomorrow. Winter wouldn’t end, then summer wouldn’t end either and the storms. The tree was a glorious surprise. I needed that.

It was actually hard to get any texture on the leaves. The color is so intense, it just wiped out details.

Amazing and unreal. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a tree with all those colors. I love the combination of the dark red, yellow and the fuchsia with a bit of sky. But it’s really hard to get texture when the color is that intense. I reduced saturation and light in some of them so I could get a hint of texture.

The combinations sure are beautiful! You’ve done a fine job conveying the intensity in the photo. 🙂

I actually toned the color down. It’s incredibly intense. Today I shot from the other side, so at least the sun is behind the tree.

As I said to myself. “What’s not to like?” It was late getting here, but it sure did pop!

Fabulous colours. I love Japanese Maples. I have two, standard and weeping variety but they are both babies only a couple of years old.

We got this from my cousin (he grows them) when we first moved it. I never imagined that tiny tree I brought home in a bucket would get so big!

This is the first year it has really shown its colors. Maybe it needed to mature a bit.

Especially with all the mud and rain. It was such a drab autumn. This tree is very uplifting!

Looks good. I have something similar in my garden, but smaller and it loses its leaves in Autumn

This too will lose its leaves. It’s just running about a month late. Usually, it’s naked by now. I’ve never seen that tree turn such a wild color before. It is luminescent.
