THE GRAND DUKE OF OUR ACRES
Weekly Photo Challenge: 4-Legged Friends
We got him by accident. We kept him because he needed a home. We thought eventually, he’d calm down.
He has not calmed down.
He has not become mellow.
He has not recognized that he is home and it safe to relax. Mostly, he wants to be attached to Garry all the time. Physically joined if possible.
He has calm periods, but mostly, he’s like a giant, over-wound spring and if the hour strikes just right, he goes into hyper action and zooms madly around the house, knocking over fences and making the two, relatively quiet little Scotties looking lost and confused.

It took Poptart years to calm down, and even now he still has a lot of calming to do.

A breeder friend of mine pointed out that although they can’t tell us, the first year or two of a dog’s life make a really big difference in their personalities. I don’t know what was done to him, but he’s pretty flaky. He’s very smart, too.

There is a look in his eyes in that one picture that looks pained as though he’s afraid it won’t last. What a sweetheart though.

Covert, again you’ve nailed it. You look at his face – those eyes. Can’t be mean to him — even if he provokes things. And, he does.

You named him well, he does have attitude. He may not settle down until he is much older.

Maybe that’s why you love him so!

Yes. It’s hard to stay angry with him – even when he’s done something really annoying. That face melts your irritation quickly. I find myself laughing at myself. Duke has done it again.

He is always sure we don’t love him enough. It comes from being a rescue. Hopefully time will fix it.

Yes, a little too much. I appreciate his adoration. But it’s a bit over the top. I have a fresh shirt on, ready to go to a medical appointment. I am sitting on the edge of the couch as I write. He’s creeping closer — to be VERY near me and my clean shirt.

He is a pretty if odd looking dog. I think he’d be happier without other dogs, but I hope over time, he’ll relax.
