No matter what anyone says, trying to be artistic with a picture you love that has flaws is a lot of work. I’ve been working on this one for hours. Literally at least two hours.
I tried it earlier, but the colors were all wrong. This time, the colors are closer to true, but I had to use a lot of filters to bring the colors at least close to the way they looked.
Now I have to figure out how to get the shot without shooting through the grubby kitchen window at a 45-degree angle!

I hear is suppose to warm up a bit on the weekend. Maybe you’ll get a chance to catch it outside?

Since our boiler died this morning, I was told not to worry because it will be warmer tomorrow. I was not looking forward to a bitterly cold night and no hot water.

When you say boiler, is that your furnace? We have a furnace and a hot water heater both run independently on gas. If our furnace went we would still have hot water.

Our furnace is a boiler, or effectively, the heat comes from a boiler which is heated by coils (electric?) and this heats our hot water (so the price of heat also includes the price of hot water). It’s why we had to buy such an expensive hot water heater because if we didn’t, the boiler would die and we’d need a new heating system — which we really can’t afford.

Now that is something new to me. Our furnace and hot water heater are two separate entities. Both are run on natural gas.

It turns out, we are getting either too much rain and flooding, or much too much snow and plowing. Wowie zowie, what a great weather year!

I saw one with a full redhead this morning. I went, got the camera and he was gone and didn’t come back. There’s some kind of bird vs. photographer law about this 😀

I had to look Robert Stroud up!! Interesting stuff, I’m sure there’s a film about him isn’t there? Secretly I had to look up Uxbridge up too! I thought Greater London bit was unsure which side!! I’ve learnt 2 things and it’s not even 8am!!

Bird Man of Alcatraz – Burt Lancaster. I think he won an Oscar for it, but I could be wrong. If he didn’t, he should have. It’s a remarkable and well-done movie.

Those darn grubby windows. LOL Know all about them… And love the results of your efforts.

It’s just frustrating that they are all “soft” because the window is like a big, smudgy filter.

Grubby is as grubby does…whatever that means.

I’d love to take pictures out the window, but alas it’s grubby with paw prints (which although wiped daily) I can’t keep up. I understand that completely. I still love that shot!

Kitchen windows get grubby even without dogs and I can’t reach very far. I used to be short. Now I am VERY short. So all the pictures are more than a little blurry.

Well, mine would be worse I’m sure!

Covert, Our living room window, which looks out to front yard and street has plenty of DNA from the furries who use sofa perches to keep tabs on boids, other furries and human people of interest.

lmao. Since obtaining a dog, I now know how much fur they can drop and I thought 3 cats were bad…now I sweep 2 to 3 times a day (more if it drives me batty) Luckily Loki is huge and can’t fit on furniture otherwise I hate to imagine!

I’ve got too many of those grubby window shots because I know if I try to open it first I’ll either miss the shot or scare off the target. That happened with the only turkey I ever spotted in my yard, though I guess I got a nice shot of it flying away from the rear…

I have seen dozens of turkeys, usually strutting SLOWLY down the middle of the road. And I NEVER have a camera!

It’s at least pretty and the colors are almost right. The colors go way off with that dirty window in the way.

It’s said that the clear air and brighter light in the Southern Hemisphere and particularly over much of Australia ( we get some bad dust storms these days and some bushfire burn off smokey days) is great for photography – even so it can be hard getting the true colour in a pic and depends upon the light conditions and the exposure setting… and if my window is clean of course ;-).
Mine are all ground floor windows on account of me not having a second floor! 🙂
Have you tried a sponge on a long stick?? 🙂

It’s more than two stories up. Would need a REALLY long stick.

I’ve seen LOADS of then in the woods by your house! 😉
Alternatively you could tie a rope round Garry’s waste and let hum bungee jump off the roof to take swipes at the windows as he whizzes by them??
Or better yet, tie it to Duke! 🙂

Woodpeckers are rare here in the estates. They stay in the woods unfortunately. Lovely to see a different bird life and you shot is a good one.

Impressed with your CU’s and ECU’s. steady hand. Great pics of Boids. You must’ve bonded with boids to get their good sides.
