Which Way Challenge: November 22, 2018
Haven’t been out on the road much, but I did manage to take a few shots when we were on our way back from Connecticut. I knew I would need some road pictures. And here they are.
We got stuck in a couple of hours of non-moving traffic which always gives me time to take a few shots. Not great shots, but … a little something.

Great photos. Thank You.

I try to remember to take some road pictures, but we don’t travel much anymore. Driving has become such a hassle.

Most Australian capital cities are hard to get in and out of at peak times. Hobart has a one-way road system in the CBD. Traffic coming down the Southern Outlet into the city is bumper to bumper for about 4km in the mornings but only for about an hour although people who still do the commute tell me it’s worse than it used to be. The main problem is that due to the terrain and the fact that Hobart is an old city there are no alternative routes so if there is an accident on Macquarie Steet, the “in” street traffic will be delayed for hours. However, compared to what you have described on occasion I don’t think we have that much to worry about.

The roads were built when there were many fewer cars and a much smaller population. Unfortunately, we are stuck with the planning 100 years later and there’s nowhere to put new roads. That’s certainly the problem here.

Probably true of many of ours as well, apart from those country towns with roads built deliberately wide so you could turn a bullock wagon in them.

Boston was like that when i got here in 1987 and even easier when Garry moved here in 1970. But in the past 20 years … well … There are just three major roads into the city and they all bottleneck before you get into town. There’s NO place to park and the pay to park places cost a week’s groceries.

What ever happened to “city planning”? We went into Toronto yesterday and spent about 4 hours – 2 each way on a trip that should have taken no more than 20 min. each way. Nobody was getting anywhere. It is a nightmare.

Leslie, yikes! You drove to “the city” on a Friday? Not us. It is a nightmare. Any day, anywhere, anytime of the week – unless you feel like going somewhere at 3 o’clock in the morning.

We had to go Garry. We’re on a “death” watch and we had to say good bye….

Sorry, Leslie. And, forgive me for making light of a sad event. Not intended.

no problem – I agree Friday was not a good time to go, but at this stage of the game the traffic is bad almost all the time, there’s never a good time.

You live in an old city. NEW cities are planned, but they never manage to plan enough roads for the future anyway, so they are great for a couple of years but after that? Same mess as every other city. The worst cities are old ones like Toronto and Montreal, New York and Boston. We don’t have roads. We have old wagon tracks that were originally native hiking trails. They probably didn’t make a lot of sense 150 years ago and less sense now.

I do remember a time when it was a pleasure to drive somewhere, not anymore….

Even a few years ago. Here, our population has gone done, but there are at least twice as many cars. Families that had one car now have three.

Wait a minute. That looks an awful lot like my SUV next to that Liberty truck, and I was home all weekend. I could’ve sworn it was in my driveway the whole time. Either hubby’s playing games with my car, or I’m getting senile. Unless, of course, Puppy Cody learned to drive – there was that one time when it seemed she took an awful long time in the backyard …

Cordelia, probably Cody and pal on secret drive to Grandma’s house where the holiday treats were awesome. Need to ask Cody, face to face, for the truth.

But remember, they lie like dogs!

I tried, but Cody’s a really good liar. It’s those eyes, you know?

Those eyes are a DNA thing. They are born begging for another meal.

Ugh, the traffic on the highways is getting worse and worse by the year. Construction sure doesn’t help. I think these epitomize interstate travel in the US perfectly. Thanks for joining in this week. 😊

Sonofabeech, The Thanksgiving road traffic looked absolutely ghastly — viewed on TV. We haven’t done that trek in 20 years or more. So many fenderbenders and damn tail-gaters trying to get around you when there’s no place to go.

The last time we did a Thanksgiving trek, it was almost 14 hours from Philadephia … which is usually a five or six hour drive. We said never again and it has been never. Again. My son lives four miles down the road. Not usually a problem. But this was a non-holiday mid-week trek that’s generally about 2, maybe 2-1/2 hours … but they were repaving on both sides of the road. At least they were done by the time we went home!

Patience is in short order out there. That’s for dang sure. 😏

It makes going anywhere a bit of guess, you know? The hospital we go to is about half an hour away, but we always leave an hour because who knows what traffic will be? And driving into New York or Boston is just insane. It used to be you could drive into Boston in an hour and a bit. Now it can take all afternoon.

Where the heck are you gonna go on a 2 lane road. Fly away?
